My teacher told me that it meant that you have no respect for your oponents fighting ability.... I never would foot jabs to the face, but a front kick under the chin is a beautiful thing, and it seems that since the lead foot "linear" strike is "tabbo" in Muay Thai they dont defend it well?

It is disrespectful because Thais think of the feet as disgusting, so for you to be touching their face with the bottom of your foot is inviting a beatdown attempt (hence not respecting their fighting ability if you do it). It is not illegal as such, but you hardly ever see it done in a Thai vs Thai match.

Check out the clubs. If you want to go competative, go Muay Thai. If you want to learn straight MA for oyur own benefit, then check them both out. Ask what kind of muay thai the gym is. If it is traditional, it is good. If it is not traditional, then it is just a sport club for competition. Personally, I would take wing chun because there is so much more to learn involving alternate power sources, and a wider range of techniques. Also, Muay Thai does not teach takedowns nor locks. Wing Chun does. Wing Chun simply has a wider veriety of techniques, thus you are prepared for more combat situations. On a side note: Pay no mind to those that claim 'Wing Chun is harder to use in a fight.' That is like saying that a pickle was never a cucumber. Silly, really.

Yes, they think of the feet as disgusting and also the head as the most pure and clean part of the body. I would imagine they would defend it just fine, as the lead foot jab to the gut and chest are extremely common in muay thai fights, and the parry defense is the same for both body and head teeps.

In Thailand, they believe that the feet are disgusting, and the head is sacred.

To point you feet at religious objects or people is considered an insult.

When you enter the ring, your head should be above the ropes, since it's sacred.

That's why the "foot jab" is considered disrespectful.

Pointing at something with your foot is most disrespectful. You can do this "foot jab" at your opponent. It'll piss your opponent a lot so it's a very good move to intimidate your opponent. It can also knock out or kill your opponent depending on how hard you can kick and where you hit (which would be kicking down on your opponent's chin).

Even if it wasn't a Thai custom, it still is disrespectful to touch someones face with anything in any country.

Unless it's your honey, your mom or other loved one caressing it.

They Think that the bottom of the feet are disgusting and it would feel as if you are not respecting your opponent unless your opponent is a deadly outsider.LOL
