I live in the south "Arkansas" and flies are really bad down here but there is something we like to use its a cattle fly wipe you can get it at alot of feed and seed stores or somwhere that deals with horses and cattle. Its a liquid thats usually poured onto rags that are hanging on a rope at a cattle entrance when they walk under it, it just swipes down their back . But it works wonderfully on dogs. Petco may have it also just ask for cattle fly wipe. You"ll be impressed!

Try spraying some cheap parfume on it. It won't harm it. It will only cause the dog to sneeze a bit. Because they don't like the smell of it.
