I will be graduating with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice in August of 2008. I want to become a firefighter but am recently burnt out. I want to move to Oahu for one year and live my dream. I have wanted to move to Hawaii since I was at least 17 (now 22). I am this close to buying my one way ticket for September. Only thing is I am worried about my parents, they want me to get my paramedics license, and get everything now. They are sort of strict. I have quite a bit of money in the bank and will be using that. I feel if I tell them what I am doing they will say no and not let me go. I think if I buy the ticket now, wait until May when I graduate and tell them, it would be too late for them to stop me. I want to have a roomate before I move to tell them I found a place. I am just worried about my parents stopping me from doing this and not letting me use my bank money. Plus I will be 23 when I leave and just turn 24 when I get back. What should I do?

You should go. you only live once and if you dont go you will regret it. You are 22 yrs old. Grow up and live your own life. You parents will not disown you. they will have a free place to visit when they come visit you in hawaii. You should go. you should do what you want. Are there names on your bank account? if not, they have no say in what you do with YOUR MONEY. even if there names are on your account. its still yours. If you are burnt out with school now you wil not do as well. good luck.

They are your parents. You should listen to what they say and consider it. Then make up your own mind. You may agree with them or you may not. Like someone else crudely pointed out, you are 22.

Is there a chance that you could take the test in Hawaii? You may decide that you do not like Hawaii enough to stay a year and comeback early.
