but if an agnostic or atheist or someone of a diff. religion tried to do the same they would flip out!
I recently went to my doc. to get some contacts and he asked me if I went to church, I told him I wasn't religious, he knew I went to a catholic highschool but I told him I didn't believe in that stuff, he proceeded to talk about church, god, and gave me a card from his church saying how I should go, I just told him I was not religious and i thought that was very rude and inappropriate. He is lucky I am a good person and politely listened and smiled.

I believe the proper wording would have been to talk at you. I am a Christian, God gave us choices. You made yours and I made mine. Now lets move on.
I am glad you was polite. Keep that trait, it will get you far.

It is rude. Most Christians see their way as the only way and if you do not believe they must show you the path to righteousness. No one can say that there is or is not one TRUE religion. Yet, somehow Christians believe that they are the one and only. Tell me....how do you know? And do give me the I just know or the Bible told me so bit. I want solid evidence. I want to know why a loving God would allow people to starve and suffer. Why does this great and powerful God allow babies to be thrown into garbage cans and horrible things happen to good people? And if Christianity is the only way to go then 2/3 of the world's population is going straight to hell. If I were gullible enough to believe everything I have read or been told, then I would still believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy.

Probably for the same reason you're on a "Religion & Spirituality" forum? Just kidding. What I normally do is wait for someone to show me that they're curious about God or wanting some kind of change other than the doldrum boring life that America has come to. For me, life since I decided to follow God, has been awesome. Prior to that, I found myself with the same dull questions and dull life that I find many here that are pretending to be happy and fulfilled. Drugs are not fulfilling. Drugs are a way of enhancing life or avoiding life and responsibilities in life.
The thing that gets me is, "Why not give God a try?" You have nothing to lose or perhaps EVERYTHING TO LOSE! Also, I don't know if anyone's ever considered this option, but God only asks that you believe in HIM and follow HIS laws in your life which should make you a better person and one who can enjoy life to the fullest without have to drug yourself up or get high or pretend to be something your not. The thing is, if God is for real, and I know HE is, and your refuse HIM and HIS commands, you lose the opportunity for an eternity in Heaven with HIM beyond this very short 80+ years. And I just don't think that's too much to ask of a person that HE probably is responsible for creating to begin with. So what if someone thinks your strange. It doesn't bother you now that others think you are. So what if the majority of the nation agree with you that you accept God as your Father in Heaven! Wouldn't it be worth it to give up a little right now for an eternity with HIM later, and all too soon?
Blessings

It is extremely rude for one reason; it's a place of business. Also, if you told him you weren't interested that should have been the end of the conversation for him. That is one problem I have with "believers". They never know when to stop. I was best friends with a very strong "believer" for years and I finally got tired of her trying to FORCE God onto me all the time. I began to actually resent her and I no longer consider her my friend. She made the worst mistake ever and that was to push me away.
I think everyone has a right to believe or not believe and nobody should have the right to force their opinions on others where it is not wanted.

The situation you described is rude and inappropriate at work, imo. I know he meant well, but if someone says they are not interested then that should be the end of it. At least he didn't say you were going to Hell (as some Christians do), or that you are stupid (as some atheists do) or you should convert or die (as some Muslims do).
God Bless. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays.

If my doctor told me to go to church, I'd ask for a second opinion.
Seriously, what that eye doctor did was terrible, and he should be reported to the state licensing board for a breach of ethics.
When a person tries to convert me to his religion, I start telling him about my beliefs. That usually gets rid of him. He doesn't want to hear any more, because, you know, his religion is the *truth!*

One of the orders of the Christian religion is that they should try to make everyone in the world join their religion. They see trying to convert people like not stealing or killing. It's just something that good Christians do.

I wouldn't flip out if you tried to convert me to a non-belief in the God I already know exists by the power of the Spirit which is in me and emanates from the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. I would consider your viewpoints and respect your right to have them and voice them. I would also share mine with you. If you consider my viewpoint and my perspective you won't get offended because you will realize that I love you as my spirit brother or sister and I don't want to see you suffer for your non-belief. It is all about intent. If I try to convert you for the intent that I will boost my own ego...than of course that is a rude thing to do. But I am not in the business of inflating my own ego. I want to help as many souls come to Jesus Christ and find salvation. "Now [I am] desirous that salvation should be declared to every creature, for [I can] not bear that any human soul should perish; yea, even the very thoughts that any soul should endure endless torment [does] cause [me] to quake and tremble." (Adapted from Mosiah 28:3.)

Presenting the Good news is not considered, nor should it be considered, rude. That is because christians have your best interests at heart. I don't think i could say the same for atheists.
It is very sad that you did not listen to your doctor. He was only trying to help you.

I think that it is rude. I have one ''friend'' who is constantly telling me crap about how she has become a better person but had to go to church to become one...when I said ''I didn't '' she told me that that was rude. So they think they can talk that crap and we are supposed to quietly take it and say nothing. Not this woman. No way.
