Do the people on here preaching the bible really think that they can change athiests (or people of other religions) minds?
If they didn't believe it before, why would they believe it now?

Many of us are well rooted in our "faith"... that goes for those non-believers also.

I think if your'e stubborn enough to continually defend your belief on YA.. you will be very hard to ever change. It would be a long, long time.

But Yahoo answers is for more than just trolls and stubborns.

Many people from all walks of life look for answers.. who do not participate at all.

I see it as adding my perspective more for that pool of people.

Not so much for the arrogant "comedians" or sarcastic trolls.

God Bless You.

You made a very good point my friend; but it isn't about changing people's minds. Minds, especially inflexible ones, are usually made up, and, for some individuals even the Lord Jesus himself appearing before them would not be enough to bring about a change.

We can't always change people's minds; but we can plant a seed. Just a thought carried in the heart can be watered by a sole human being, and then another through actions or a word until the idea becomes a belief.

That is what i want to do--plant a seed and hope the soil of their hearts is fertile.

When people start preaching - then you know they are proclaiming a lost cause. Quoting the Bible shows how idiotic it is - it is full of such preaching - such is their Word of God - so empty of information, that it simply threatens people into submission.

What can happen here, is that information be freely given - such that there is a passing of information and knowledge. Even knowledge you have never heard of - or thought existed?
eg. The original teachings of Jesus - is not about God at all, nor making himself (Jesus) into a Son of God or world saviour, etc. He was not about that at all.

The original version of what is known now as 'The Lord's Prayer' is very different, before it was changed into Christianity's version.

Well, if they are preaching the Bible, they probably do think they can change peoples minds. I believe others of us who are more academically minded see this as a forum to publish a thesis in an informal manner and offer it for challenge.

It is up to the people who read it if they want to believe it or not since people can say all of these things about Bible as much as they want but people will believe it or not. People believe in different things so not everyone will believe in the Bible like Christians do.

No god-man lover or those in fear and awe of his sky father will ever change my mind. The most confirmed type of atheist is one who has "been there, done that;" who has found his religion and its leaders to be dishonest; who are primarily interested in maintaining control of their "flock" through fear of hell and damnation, while fleecing their wallets to fatten their treasury. I have yet to see an anorexic-looking cardinal, bishop, or priest assigned to a wealthy parish (I'm an ex-Catholic). They are all well-fed, well-housed, and well-protected legally (the numerous cases of pedophilia). The Bible is one of the weirdest books I've ever read (on my own, because Catholics use their version of the "holy book" called the Catechism).

To paraphrase General Douglas McArthur: " I shall NEVER return."

"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future, it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas, and theology, it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural, spiritual, as a meaningful unity."

Fortunately, we have God on oursides. Unfortunately, however, we have ego's; we have self-contractions. So lets talk about both sides of that street and ways that we can tip the scales in Gods favor. And also at some of the ways that all of us are inherently dedicated to not waking~up~which we know is the case, because the empirical evidence is right there.
One of my fav exercises from the Quaker prayer gatherings is: "Let the next sentence out of your mouth be from your very highest self."
Therefore, choose your acts very, very, carefully. Make sure that the next thing that you say comes from your higher self. Then there's hope for the future generations. So which ever path you choose make it from "Right Mind!"

You come to this site to discuss religion and spirituality. What else are Christians going to talk about, but our faith. I am going to answer the questions based on my faith because I want my point of view represented. If the message changes anybody is not something I have control over.

I went from Christianity to theism/deism to atheism, partially because of some answers I received on here (such as responses to a question I believed to be damning evidence against evolution, ripped practically verbatim out of a "Dr. Dino" seminar).

I agree! There is no way that i can change anyone's mind about God! All I can do is present it to them and let them choose and then leave it up to God as He is the only one that you can truly change anyone. You never know! Something someone says to someone now may not affect them immediately but down the road when they get to thinking about it, it may start things in their mind. I am not here to change anyone's mind! I am here to tell others that ask what my beliefs are and how God has changed my life!
