Hi everybody! I got my boyfriend a PS3 a couple of days ago and everything worked fine on it, including the HDMI connection. We tried to play the game Assassin's Creed and it screwed the system up and I almost thought the PS3 died. After messing with it for hours I got the machine to boot back up, but now it will only play through regular AV connection.

It says " HDMI connection has been detected, do you want to connect?" and I click yes, then the screen just goes blank and stays blank. I have the TV on the right settings and everything is set up right, it was working perfectly earlier today so I haven't changed anything.

I am wondering if perhaps my HDMI cables went bad, or maybe the port on the playstation or maybe even the TV?

It was weird because when we tried to play the game it said it was going to do a firmware update, then the screen went all fuzzy black and white and you couldn't read anything, so we restarted the system and that's where the problem started.

When ever the PS3 is updating you are not supposed to turn it off or reset the system because it can damage the PS3. I read that in the Users Manual and before an update it tells you not to turn off or reset the system on the screen.

When my PS3 updates the screen does go blank sometimes and the screen may appear to look a bit funny at times, but it whenever the system is finished updating my t.v. screen always comes on back to normal.

I think that the PS3 may be damaged because you turned it off during an update and the PS3 might have to be replaced. I recommend calling Sony and see how they can help you.

you maximum in all possibility ought to alter the video output back to the A/V cables. The PS3 won't try this directly. turn off the PS3. carry down the flexibility button until the console has beeped two times. ought to be 5-6 seconds. which will change it back to the A/V.

when you say yes to the question that says "HDMI connection has been detected, do you want to connect?" when the screen goes blank, dont just sit there and wait, you have to change the TV input to HDMI

or

your ps3 could be messed up because you restarted the ps3 while it was updating

I WOULD HAVE TO BELIEVE FROM YOUR DESCRIPTION THAT YOU ARE NOT SWITCHING OVER THE VIDEO CONNECTION FROM AV CABLES TO HDMI IN THE SETTINGS OF THE PS3.

It sounds like the cable is shot. I would suggest purchasing a new one and trying again. If it continues to give you trouble then call the company help line.
