Perhaps he believes in the MAGIC OF SANTA... or maybe he doesn't want YOU to know he doesn't believe?
I think that, at 12, most kids do know...
I'm 50 and i believe in the MAGIC.
when my older child was upset and sad because there was "no santa" i read him the story of St. Nicholas who was a real person who gave to those without. And i read it from an encyclopedia, of all things (yes this was back in the dark ages). he was RELIEVED to hear the story, and how we believe in santa to remember the good St. Nicholas did on this earth.
my younger child? he couldn't have cared less if there was a santa or not....
kids are so different!

Most 4-5 year-old kids are afraid to tell their parents that they don't believe in Santa, because they want the toys. I saw an article on that a few weeks ago. If your kid SERIOUSLY still believes in Santa, that would be cause for concern. How to "tell" him? Just say, "I know you don't really believe in Santa anymore, but he's still going to stuff your stocking this year..." then wink, and say, "OK?" If you get an argument or a confused look, gently tell the kid that "there is a Santa, son, and you are looking at him."

This is why I don't believe in promoting the Santa myth in the first place. Parents do it because it's "cute" and kids are so gullible.
It's going to break both your hearts, as it inevitably does, but the time is overdue for the truth. Probably the softest approach is, "I'm Santa. And so are you, every time you do something nice for someone else. Santa lives in your heart and always has and always will."

well there was actually a guy that gave presents away but you could probably tell him that there is no santa. It be the right thing to do anyways. He won't get picked on probably since most people would have already thought he didn't belive in Santa anyways.

Tell him that santa does not come to high school kids, (years 7 - 12 in Australia). That is what my mum and dad said.
Good luck!

Tell him gently after Christmas. My daughter is 9 and still believes.
Or just tell him you help him out since he is older Santa doesn't give alot to the older kids.

It's definitely time for him to learn the truth, and it's better for him to hear it from you than some kid at school that's going to give him hell about it.
Do him a favor and tell him now, or wait until just after christmas. One more won't hurt any.

Yeah, like a 6 year old knows there is no Santa. I'm sure he is just kidding you :) the first kid in grade one blabs this to all his friends when he finds out. OK so christmas morning, NO presents under the tree!! Then when he is all upset, say Yeah I guess the jig is UP.

I went through this last year with my than 11 year old... And what I said to her was "What do u think" "Do u believe he is real or not"... She was very confused and from this I found the Conversation flowed freely.... She shed a few tears but was quite happy to know the truth...
Good Luck

Well, if you want to break it to him gently you could start by saying that there are a lot of kids who don't believe in Santa and that they still get presents.
I'm sure you will get other suggestions also.
