They know better than to request something that will make me go over my budget & at least they get something that they will definitely use. Or do you think it sounds greedy?

i think it's helpful to ask for a list so they receive something you know they'd like to have... if it's over your budget, get a gift certificate from the store which sells the item, in the amount of your own choice.

take care

I'm 28, my mom to this day still ask for a chirstmas list. It took me till december 1 to get it to her and then it was only maybe 3 items long. i know they are strapped for money.

But she also knows that presents for me are for need and not always want. I think there was one I want gifts on my list which was PostSecret books. Any of the 4.

but i dont think it's greedy plus whne i get really goofy and write a 5 page list like i did when i was a kid and have it ready before Oct, she just uses that for ideas for my birthday and the following christmas.

Well my whole family used to just buy surprise gifts for each other... but now that my brother and I have grown old, we all (parents included) just tell each other what we want...I don't think it's greedy but it takes the surprise and festivity out of things. It just works out better this way because no one will be disappointed or anything. However we still wrap up small gifts, like a shirt or something to keep under the tree

My daughters are in their late 20s early 30s and at this point, I ask them what is it they want, this way I know they will get something that they can use. As you state they know better than to request something that I can not afford and in getting suggestions from them, I don't run around like a chicken without a head looking for what I think they need. God Bless.

What do you mean by grown children? If they don't live with you anymore, I'd give you an idea of what I wanted, but it wouldn't be a request. As far as a kid still living at home, they are going to make that list every year.

I am 29 and we have made out Christmas lists in our family our whole lives. We each make a list that has many things on it ranging in prices. Sometimes I'll receive an expensive gift that 2 or 3 people chipped in on. Sometimes I get lots of little things. It makes shopping easier. I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

I would think the ideas as a suggestion and if it was in my budget i would get it. If not then I would get something else

this is how you know that the meaning of Christmas is lost in your home. Christmas is not about giving people lots of things that they don't need or want. try a different approach this year to the holiday and celebrate as it was intended.
