I bought it origionally for over $1,000. It is in very good condition. I brought it to our music store and they offered only $100. Where could i go to get a better offer?

Sell Used Flute

Unless you have a fine professional instrument, the value of your flute drops dramatically as soon as you purchase it. It is USED - so do not expect half of what you paid. The markup on new instruments is obscene - you are paying for advertising, shipping, etc. A fine instrument will retain value, and even appreciate in price. There are over 2,000 flutes for sale every day on eBay. 1900 of them are over priced, or junk. Maybe 100 are fairly priced. The chances of you selling your instrument there is slim - if you put a *reserve* on it, many of us will not bid. I buy several thousand dollars worth of flutes ( and ONLY flutes) a year from eBay - but I am an expert. I - and others like me - have them repaired, and then re-sell them locally to students. Go look on eBay - run a search for the flute YOU have - and you will see that there are many other just like it. Add some to your *watch* list - and you will see that most of them never sell. Sorry to tell you this - but unless you have something TRULY striking, you are out of luck. And a flute that a student and family paid $1,000 for - and that was the sucker price - may NEVER sell. It's your forever - unless you donate it, and take a tax write-off.

Try an actual flute dealer, such as Flute World, Flute Specialists, Flute Center of New York, The Flute Exchange, or Carolyn Naussbaum. There, they can perform the necessary repairs on the instrument (if any), and give you an idea on what a fair price would be. If you decide to not go through a flute dealer, you can still email them the specificiations of your instrument, and overall condition to see if they can give you a ballpark figure. Then, you can use that figure to advertise locally.

If you do decide to sell locally, you can put an ad on craigslist if there's one for your area. I would also highly recommend contacting local flute teachers and band/orchestra directors. That way, you are in more control over the price that you're willing to sell the instrument for rather than some local music store.

if your in the US, i've been using iRocktion.com recently. A lot freaking cheaper than ebay. It's free to list whatever. so, unless it sells, you're not charged anything. Even then it's like a 2 or 3 percent.
