As she is 21 she is legally an adult in the US. Her father would not be required to sign any papers at all. I'm afraid that your friend most probably is lying to you. Perhaps she has no money and is embarrased to say so? It's up to you if you wish to call her on her lie, but try not to get down about it. I'm sorry that you've been disappointed. Merry Christmas.

If your friend is 21, there is no reason if she has a valid passport why she wouldn't be able to leave the USA without parents permission. Even when I was 18 and going to London for a class trip, my parents never signed anything that specifically said I could go overseas. Unless this has to do with something financial, I can't even think of anything close to what you are describing.

She is an adult in the U.S.. However, without more information, it's hard to understand what she's talking about. Has she gotten into some kind of legal problem where her father has made himself responsible (financially) for her? Could it be a passport issue?

Sometimes if you use another person's credit card to pay for your flight, but the credit card owner is NOT travelling with you, they have to sign a letter confirming that they are such and such and that they are paying for the flight. The letter either has to be sent to the airline's office or taken to the airport upon departure.

never know.. don't assume until you hear the full story, may be he is the one who is paying and has to sign some papers for fees (visa card on line etc...)
I don't know where your friends is from....In some eastern countries women cannot leave the country without the father signature whatever their age is, unless they are married, and at that moment the husband has to sign

Sounds like a poor excuse to me. I don't know of any papers required except passport and she can get that herself.

Flying overseas could mean a totally different set of rules. I've never done it but I would hope she's telling the truth.

Yes, 21 is an adult, although, she could be lying about her age. But than again, that is something all females do.
