It is an HP Pavilion a1355c. My brother got a virus on my computer about 2 weeks ago, and it erased my hard drive. when I try and install ANY version of Windows (Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista Ultimate), it installs just fine, but when the computer starts after installation, it just keeps restarting. I installed Kubuntu Linux and I don't get the infinite reboots. Please help! I need to fix this computer ASAP! and also, I need to know if this is a hardware or a software failure. Thanks!

The virus wiped my hard drive.. and I have an XP Pro disc and a Vista Ultimate disc... :( and the Windows installation won't work at all...only Linux works.

You said the magic word - VISTA!!!

Odds are, the virus had NOTHING to do with this problem - MANY Vista users reported the EXACT same thing when they tried to install the SP1 update (which came DIRECTLY from Micosoft)...

Since your hard drive's been wiped - just format it and install a CLEAN install of Windows (NOT a "Repair" or "Upgrade" install). And take this chance to drop Vista like the piece of trash it is - and go back to XP ;););););)

definite, you elect the two the restoration disk or living house windows disk to format your tension, (wipe it ) then reinstall your equipment. yet dont propose any microsoft products for viruses or undercover agent ware to be put in. ultimate to spend a pair of greenbacks and take it to a community tech.

I suggest you go to HP and have a "chat." I found HP's support to be very good. They responded in a couple of hours, helped me straighten out my problem, and checked back to make sure everything was o.k.

Before you contact HP, get out your serial number, and I hope you registered your PC.
