Back in the 50s, there was a religious advocate that would pre-screen movie scenes and he could object if it was too risque.
They have gradually morphed into doing whatever they want, including cursing, sex, and intoxification with drugs or alcohol. What is the reason for this?

If movies wanna show every aspects of a subject or a story, it shouldn't be limited by only showing what a specific religion wants me to watch. I'd rather see everything good or bad than have it filtered by someone who wants me to think their way.

Society has changed since the 50's. Geez, you couldn't say pregnant on TV back then. I sorta agree with you and think that sex has been used to promote ticket sales and most everything else. It seems that it must work or it wouldn't be used. I think more discretion could be used but I don't want movies censored so that all you can see is children shows. I do want to see movies that include everyone and that includes the darker side of life. All the things you list exist in life and are out there whether you think so or not. So they rate the shows so that you can make an informed choice. If you only want to see certain types of movies, then make that choice. I abhor those silly comedies sold for family viewing. They are unrealistic and boring to me. I guess it takes all types. I am a 40's movie buff and many are very nice and some have a dark side but it is only implied, sparing the audience from the realities of life. I don't want to put my head in a bucket and ignore what goes on. I enjoy them because of the use of black and white-shadows and light-real backgrounds and so much more.

Ummm, why do you think you are charged $12 or more to buy a theatre ticket these days?
If Hollywood produced a 'Song of Bernadette' these days - do you think it would bomb at the box office or be a smash?
And if a 'Sexy Siren Bernadette a la femme fatale' was released instead - would that be a smash or a flop?
Why do you think the porn industry makes so many millions of dollars ever since it became a legal industry?
Imagine churches making their movies - who will go and see them? Probably they'll have to give the viewer $12 just to sit through it...
'The Passion' (of Jesus Christ) is probably the rare example in which a Christian movie did sell - and the [converted] audience bought it. But non-believers will be unimpressed by the movie's end.
Don't look forward to a 'Passion 2' it would feature a boring story - if ever it finds one?

They are doing this because it is what the people want. If we all stopped going to see the movies they would try something new. Society today is a little complicated. They want us to believe they are not against religion but at the same time they put out movies that are the opposite of what most religions believe. But this is because even people from the strictest religions like the movies with sex, drugs, violence and alcohol...its just how life is these days. But if you notice lately there has been a trend to do movies about things that happened in the past...preferably in the 50's and 60's. I hope this means we are going back to more peaceful movies...for everyone's sake...

You know that even the religious hypocrites like sex and all the other movies being made today. They even went to see The Passion of The Christ, and that has to be a movie depicting nothing but a many being whipped, and no man would be able to sustain that kind of beating. I wonder just what numnuts Gibson was thinking of other than money when he bank-rolled that piece of time wasting manure, and he is a great catholic, too.

Well...

They call it freedom.

It's something that people who grew up in a religion-contaminated environment don't seem to accept well.

Don't worry, it's not that bad.

It's just a matter of getting accustomed to it.

And still... everyone has the right of choosing what to see.

See?

Greetings!

People aren't as ignorant as they were back in the 50's to all the false religions of the world. After 40 years of researching ALL of earth's religions I have found NONE that meet up to being one of an intelligent, supreme being ANYWHERE. Dont't get me wrong, there IS a God in heaven, just not the one religions put OUT that he IS. In man's VANITY to put himself above others in the eye's of God all they have done is make themselves look like JACKASSES.

Well, at least you can see the difference from the good old days and the way life is today.
Right when you think nothing can shock you anymore, they come out with another vulgar and repulsive film.
They get you used to seeing that crap until you become accustomed to it.

Films....if you make them, they will come....

Making movies is a business. If people did not go to see a particullar type of movie, then they would not keep making those movies. The same thing with television shows....
