Hello to All,

Gotta a situation here. To be blunt, I am not much of a computer whiz. My Vista loads with a bar at the bottom of my screen that says Microsoft Corporation. then it go's to a black screen and then my mouse pointer pops up. I can move that pointer just fine, but it is just a black screen. Anyone have any clues? Yes- I ran the install DVD and ran all the repairs.

I am familiar with XP a bit, but Vista seems to be built on something called a BCD manager. I do not think it is the boot as it gets past the bar (progressing bar?) and that means it is the GUI, correct? What controls the Vista GUI and how can I repair it? step by step help would be great as I have very important family photos on there. My email is blade_begins@yahoo.com. If you know a lot about Vista, give me all the help you can....step by step, however you want so I can get this booting to my desktop.

Also, cannot go into safe mode or any mode for that matter.

Tried all diagnostics. It does seem to be the GUI. How can I rebuild or repair the gui? I was able to get it to try and boot into the non-gui interface, but it did the black screen again. Any ideas?

It was running fine before. Yes, as I stated before, I ran all DIAGS. I ran the Startup repair on the disk. I tried to revert back to system restore. Nothing works. What files would be corrupt? Can I get a little more info? I need some help or some kind of direction. I know it is not hardware, I know it has to do with the GUI....HOW do I fix that?

What to do When Vista Crashes
Because Microsoft's new operating system is bigger than its predecessors, it's more of a pain to reinstall. Here are some backup, repair, and monitoring methods so you won't have to, even if you encounter fatal startup errors..

Save the Vista installation disk which came with your PC. You'll need it during the boot-repair process.

Is this a new installation, or one that's been installed for a while?

Have you done anything to the installation lately that might have messed things up, such as installed a new piece of hardware or software?

What happens when you're in safe mode?

You're saying that once it's got past the boot splash screen, it just hangs, but you can move the mouse yeah?

It sounds to me like you've got a few corrupt files etc. The installation DVD in repair mode would have sorted it all out though, or should have done.

If you want to backup all your stuff, so you're sure you have a backup of it (your pics etc), then your best bet would be to take the hard disk out of your system and whack it in another box as a slave drive and then copy everything across.

it would desire to count on your expertise. Do you desire to troubleshoot your pc? are you able to paintings out straight forward issues that arise on your pc? We had our laptop stolen and so had no selection yet to purchase new & the only selection replaced into vista. we've had fairly an excellent form of complication as a results of fact there are agencies obtainable that have not yet made their classes vista compatibile. in case you run regularly microsoft classes, you will possibly be ok. yet once you run classes from little ordinary or small utility agencies, i might carry off for a three hundred and sixty 5 days.

Black screen usually mean a hardware failure..
Did you try to go into the safe mode and, see what if anything, is different there? Altho,if it is hardware..I doubt that you will be able to have any luck there as well..
Feel free to send me an email if you like..
