What can I do about someone taking the parking space outside of my house? I've lived here for almost 8 years. My neighbors have just moved here and invite people to their house all the time. People are always taking my parking space and are rude about moving. They're not the highest class of people and their cars have windows missing and sometimes their cars are unable to move from in front of my house because they need fixed. It's really annoying as I work swing shift. I could come home at 3pm, 11pm, or 7 am and never have a parking space. It's really getting on my nerves since it's winter/cold, I'm pregnant, and I have to walk 25 feet down an icy sidewalk to get to my house. Is there any law that says that I have the right the space in front of my house? Also, their excuse for taking my spot is someone has taken theirs (which is NOT my problem).

Also, I think it's important that we own our home and always have. These people live off the government and pay rent or live there for free. I think that matters as we pay alot of money to own our home and thus we should be able to park in front of it.

I'm afraid not. The fact is, the space in front of your house is a public road and anybody with a legally registered/inspected vehicle has a right to park there so long as he's not blocking your driveway or breaking some other law. But I agree that parking in front of somebody else's house ALL the time is very rude and inconsiderate, and there are a few things you could do to try to straighten those people out. For one thing, you said that their cars are often in a state of disrepair. Depending on the local ordinances in your city they could be breaking the law by leaving disabled vehicles on the street. You also might want to check the registration and inspection stickers on their windshields - if they're expired, you can call the cops and have them ticketed. Some cities also have alternate side of the street parking regulations as well as limits on how long you can leave a car parked in the same spot on a residential street, so you might want to check the laws on that as well. In most cities it's also illegal to park commercial vehicles on a residential street overnight, so if they have commercial license plates you could get them ticketed for that too.

Sounds like a very annoying situation...
I don't think you have rights to street parking unless you actually own the land the street is on. Otherwise it's the city's land/public parking.
You could always call local law enforcement and find out how long a vehicle can sit outside your house unmoved before it's considered abandoned, then report it every time a car is in front of your house for that length of time.
Or maybe just putting orange cones where you want to park would work? You need something easy for you to move that obstructs the space while you're gone.
Is there any chance you could make nice with your neighbors and get some sympathy points with your pregnant belly?

My neighbor had my friend's car towed because he parked it in front of the neighbor's house. This jerk thought he owned the street in front of his house and had the car towed after it had sat there 72.1 hours. My friend was out of town and coming back the next day. All of the other neighbors would've checked with one another before doing something like that, or would never have done it because they know that no one owns any part of the street. This guy was so arrogant that he called to have the car towed just because it was parked in the sacred spot in front of his house. How do some people get off thinking they have rights like this?

even however you're allowed to park for the time of your guy or woman driveway whilst you're obstructing your neighbour from getting directly to the prevalent public street then the Police could have your automobile towed. it is not your street it belongs to the Highways Authority. ought to I respectfully recommend which you attempt walking some yards. you are able to practice to the Highways Authority for yellow lines in the journey that your Son is so disabled.

You don't own the street in front of your home; the public can park there if they wish. You could talk to your neighbors and respectfully request that they ask their friends to park elsewhere so you can use that spot.

If you live on a public street then they have as much right to park there as you do. There's no law that favors a homeowner for parking on public streets.
Your best bet is to ask then nicely if they can leave your spot open--it's all you can do.

Unless it's blocking your driveway in front of your house, it's city property and it's public. The only thing you can really do is talk to your neighbors about it.

Why would you buy a house that doesn't have a driveway and garage? Big mistake. Sell your house and move out of the ghetto to a better neighborhood.

I'm not even going to address your bigoted tone! The street in front of your house is city property, not yours. Get over yourself.
