The exhaust is thick and smelly. It seems like the fuel mixture is too rich. It has a four barrell.

Fuel is definatly to rich, you could try adjusting the carb, before just tearing it apart and rebuilding, there should be plenty of info on the web for a mustang, if it still has problems then rebuild it.

Blown power valve in the carburetor or a stuck float.
