Nobody ever brings the "third" argument into the equation, so I will. I don't think Atheists are truly non-believers in a higher power. I think they are just so disgusted by the talks of "God" by organized religion believers (Christians mainly) that they claim non-belief because there is not a widely accepted belief that fits with how a superior being should and would be. I think the Bible should have a disclaimer on it that reads, "This book is fictional but has been based on actual events" because that's what it is.

I'm not sure I'm necessarily an atheist... I believe that you should do what you think is right. You should try to be understanding of the fact that everyone is human, accept your weaknesses, and work with them, instead of giving in to them, and live life to the fullest. I don't know what happens when we die, but nothing will change the fact that you have to spend at least a little time here on this earth.

I'm atheist. I believe that organized religions tend to attract people who are not self-confident enough to develop their own perspective of the world. As humans, we feel more comfortable when someone tells us what to do. It's easier if we don't have to figure out our way in life on our own. Our natural instinct is to follow the path of least resistance. When someone is raised in one manner it is quite simple for them to just accept it and continue on without questioning the core principals involved.

Conversely, organized religions also attract the type of person who seeks a position of power to take advantage of our natural instincts. Hence all of the scandals you hear about: the reverends Fallwell, Swaggert and many others I forget the names of. The Catholic priests sex scandals all throughout the church (and the years of cover-ups). The same process holds true for what most people would call cults. Since cults are much smaller than the larger religions, their actions are much more visible to outsiders.

This just one persons opinion on the matter. As for God and all that, I think each person has to decide what is right for them. Not everyone sees the world in the same way.

I believe in what I learned in science class.
I believe there really is a cause and effect for everything.

I also believe organized religion is a very bad thing.
