Independent Thinking is religion's Kryptonite.

Independent thinking will bring on the downfall of religion - which would be a good thing. This would then be the awakening of awareness within mankind so that we can be truly spiritual at least - united with our common goals and thoughts.

Religion of course - wants to convert the unbelievers into believers - thereby dividing society, and can explain the wars in the past - how brother can be against brother - because of their different belief systems.
Religion cannot continue having it's power and influence - as in past ages and times - because the birth of science has given rise to the scientific method, and that of proving or disproving because of the evidence available. That the truth can stand up to debate and analysis - but lies (untruths) cannot. They will be seen for what they are.

Just think of the normal analytical methods and thinking - you use, when you choose to buy a new car, computer, TV, and so on. That you do not trust in the advertising of one company - that you would rather see and read reviews from different experts on the various choices available to you - and this should apply to ideas and beliefs too - ie. religion.
If religion cannot withstand intense analysis, disection and debate - then it needs to be thrown out, like some jerry-built piece of crap - we do that with everything else, and so, why not with religion too? To sort out what is truthful and believable and that which isn't.

No, people should never avoid Independent thinking.
Religion should be avoided if it does not allow for independent thinking. But most modern religions do.

It is hard for a shepherd to herd a flock when they are thinking in a million different directions - so for a religion (or the military or schools - any organization that demands compliance) it is dangerous. The question of "should it be avoided" is more a question of your individual vision of the future. Those involved in maintaining the religion's structure, or those who's beliefs are dependent upon everyone conforming would surely say independent thought should be avoided. Those who understand that religion is a tool, embrace independent thought as we move through our own evolution of mind, as pertains to the nature of existence.

Peace!

No independent thinking can be a good thing; unless it's independent from God. We should think things through for ourselves otherwise; we won’t really know what we believe. That doesn't mean we reject everything people tell us. It just means we listen to what they say and then analyze it and see if it makes sense and matches up with God's Word.

Independant thinking should be a part of religion. It's the only way to learn and find out the truth. No religion that preaches truth should be afraid of independant thinking, unless they have something to hide, or are afraid of truth.

The apostle Paul said;

I Thessalonians 5:21

21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

In other words, examine all things being taught and preached carefully in light of God's written Word. Hold onto those things which can be verified by His Word, in context.

I have just learned of something independent (thinking) that is dependent (on the religion in question), at least for deciding if it is good or bad. Independently dependent; fascinating!

Independent thinking is not dangerous! What is the matter with you people?

2007-12-20 22:59:26 · answer #8 · answered by youngmoigle 5 · 5 0

It's only dangerous to the religion itself, because it generally destroys the religion.

It's good for the people doing it!

Dangerous only to religious institutions. But if it wasn't for independent thinking, all those institutions would have come and gone within a couple generations.

Peace to you.
