I will tell you what this stems from, honestly! This goes on all sides, religions, lack of religion, races, etc. People judge an entire body of people by a handful and it is sad!! You see, Christians on here get picked on and talked down to and told we are unintelligent by some atheists and non-Christians so that causes some of them to think that all atheists are this way. The same can be said of the atheists who have been treated badly by a few Christians on here. That makes them tend to think that we are all that way! To me, you sound like a very sensible and humble person and I would never judge anyone. We are all human and make mistakes and you just can't judge people based on a select few! I definitely do not think R&S is an adequate indicator of people in the real world and I wish we would all remember that it is so different "talking" on the net when you are just having to read someone's words instead of hearing the tone and emotion behind those words and also being able to judge the body language! So many people just begin typing without even thinking of the impact of their words!! Thank you for your question!!

Well, I cannot talk for other people, of course, but I can say that atheists, each time they hear somebody talking about God, is like a bull whom they sting with banderillas.
They begin to criticize and say that religion is typical of weak, primitive minds. That advanced, cultured, well educated, wise people don't have that kind of foolish, childish idea.
In a few words they place you at the level of Tarzan of the Apes, only even lower, or Friday, the guy who was a friend of Robinson Crusoe
Somethimes they put you at the level of children who still believe in the Tooth Fairy

Some people (not me) think that it is arrogant to assume that what you know is all there is to know. This idea is generally applied to those who assume that theistic arguments consist of Pascal's Wager, Why are there Still Monkeys, and Prove God Doesn't Exist. That comes across as presumptuous because none of those are a part of the traditional corpus of theistic arguments for the existence of God.

I think alot of Christians on here mistake our frustration as arrogance. If I have to repeat myself 5 times a day, by the 5th time, I'm a downright ******.

Well, they have this weird idea if you do not bow down to some imaginary creature, it will be because of your pride to be thinking you are the god of the world, hence the arrogance.
But then, it is illogical too because they also have this idea since they are the "saved" people, they are one up against us "unsaved" by their lord people. Which irks of arrogance, if I should say so myself.

Why do so many atheists tell theists that we are stupid, illogical, and living in a "fantasy world"?
From what I've seen on here, it's because many atheists seem to be unwilling to accept theists believe in a God and many theists seem to be unwilling to accept atheists don't. And it seems like many people from both groups are quick to judge and beat up on each other ("You're going to hell!", "You lack intelligence and your IQ is 4", "Religion is for fools", "Atheists hearts are closed, cruel places" etc). I think most people on either side do not understand particularly well why a person would choose to believe the other side since they believe so firmly in their side, if that makes sense. Generally I think both theists and atheists have a lack of respect for each other.

I personally am more arrogant because I am an atheist. When you really view the people walking around as slaves to a religion made up by goat herders and shepards thousands of years ago, you tend to view them with alot of pity and a bit of disdain.

Part of human nature is that often those that accuse others of sin most vociferously are precisely those most wracked by their own guilty consciences for the commission of the very same sin that they accuse others of.

How can someone have more arrogance than to say they have a book that lets them know the thoughts of and speak for God?
