Like, some people don't tell anyone it's their birthday and then you find out a day later and it's like...um why didn't they say anything?

Because it's none of your business. Why should they say anything? Do they owe you something? They don't want to be wished, so don't wish them. Leave them alone.
They can do anything with their birthdays. It's their bdays. If you care so much you should keep the date in your calender and surprise her with a gift every year if you are so concerned about it. Expecting her to remind you is a bit too much. Why should they have to stoop so low as to remind you?
The thing to do when you find out a day later is just to not say or do anything. That's what they want.

I don't like the attention that comes with it, it's just that simple. I don't want people to know my birthday, it's just another day. I've known my college friends for 10 years now. They don't know when my birthday is, because I have never told them.

Personally, I don't like getting a lot of attention, and I don't really celebrate my birthday. When people find out it's your birthday, they ask you what you're doing to celebrate (and "nothing" is never an acceptable answer, they just keep pushing and suggesting instead of realizing that you are happy not to celebrate it), they sing at you, they generally bother you all day.
At one job, they always made a big deal out of everyone's birthday. I discreetly told the office manager that I was not interested in celebrating my birthday, so I'd appreciate no mention being made of it. She agreed, then sent a message to everyone's computer that it was my birthday, but there would be no celebration per my wishes. So instead of being the (unwanted) center of attention just during our lunch break, I dealt with people all day coming by saying, happy birthday, why won't you celebrate? Are you upset about your age? Why did you keep us from having the party? (The truth was that my grandmother was dying and I had a few other personal crises going on, so I was going through a depression and really just wanted to be left to myself. I didn't think I should have had to share that with people I only knew at work.)
I don't care about getting older. I will take it over the only alternative--dying young. But I also don't necessarily want my own personal holiday foisted upon me by others when I would rather just have a normal day. If someone didn't tell you it was their birthday, they just didn't want a big deal made of it. Respect their wishes.

I guess that other than a personal reasons, the root of this secret that involves almost all creeds, social status, ages... we are getting older every single day, some people are proud of it and tells every body that they are older so more experienced... in the other hand, some people are scared about it, getting older means... I am not able to perform things that I used to do; I am getting close to the end of my days... I am not handsome anymore due to my new hair color or the aspect of my face... anyway no matter how old a person could be, the important is how young am I feeling today even with my new white hair, proudly 44

I think like the others said people really don't like to feel like there growing up. My part to it is that some people want that so they can think there a kid always and never face the responsibility of grrowing up. Heck they can still have fun too, they just need to lear when it's time for fun and time to get down to buisness. One more thing is like people born on Halloween (I don't know how many do this), they don't lik eit to be know because some very conservitive or stric to the point religious person will condem them for being born on the devils night as it's called I guess. To be honest i was born on Halloween and like the history behind it, so to the others why let someone hold you back for who you are. Sorry for the little over and above. Hope that helped and mainly it's what the other guys already said.

They wish to keep that private, for whatever reason and that is their right. If you really are interested you can keep a list from one year to the next and surprise them with your thoughtfulness. I think it is crass to remind someone, or even mention my birthday. Those who care already know.

I prefer not to get the attention. It's no big deal, and I don't like getting gifts, it's totally embaressing.

I think they must not like the reminder that they are getting older.

They hate getting older, and they're shy and don't like all the hoopla.
