His work was and still is stunning. It takes your breath away even if viewed only in pictures.
If his work was only so-so-its-ok, he wouldnt be as famous as he is.

By far, Michelangelo's most famous work is the Sistine Chapel ceiling. The theme of the ceiling is the Book of Genesis. He is still known today because millions of people visit his works of art each year. He is not only famous for his paintings, but is also widely known for his sculptures. Pieta and David were considered to be masterpiece that captured the essence of the Italian Renaissance.

Michelangelo very rarely painted actually he didn't like it which kinda makes the Sistine Chapel ceiling all that better as this is what he did when he didn't want to do it could you imagine if he really was passionate about it and what he might of done then?
He is most famous for sculpting which he preferred to do and his sculptors like David and Pieta showed how he mastered anatomy (he actually used to dissect bodies to understand anatomy better!) This mastery is also seen in his painting of the Sistine Chapel as almost all the figures are twisting in a really complicated pose
Hes still known because these works are pretty much perfect examples of almost life like sculptors!

His ability to sculpt made him famous. Not only was he masterful, but he was fast. He had his own studio and had apprentices. He was famous enough for Davincci to goad him before he painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling. His most notable sculpures are David and the Pieta. Michelangelo of course is very famous for the Sistine Chapel, but he preferred to sculpt, sculpt, sculpt.

he painted the ceiling of the sistine chapel. It took years for him to do upside down hanging from scaffolding. He also did the sculpture of David, which is like 14 feet tall and made from a subtractive method, meaning it was carved from a block. He did other amazing artworks, but these would be his most popular.
