I'm 18 this year, and i know that i'm still young but to me right now i just need someone to care for me and be there for me besides my parents and God. I have problems talking to boys i just don't know why. Whenever i approach them i feel shy and sometimes even scared to be near them. So i need some advice about how to overcome this feelings.

I can see that the others have given really good advice so all you need to do is to be yourself and be confident. Don't think that just because you chat someone up makes you a flirt, cheap or anything like that because that may be the reason you are holding back. It takes courage to overcome being self-conscious. You will be surprised that the guys are also apprehensive about making the first move so just relax and start a conversation with comments about sports, movies or even the band featured on his shirt - now that will get him going!

You sound like a really nice person so enjoy your youth and make as many friends as possible. It will get easier as you mature and learn how to carry yourself in the company of the opposite sex.

This isn't so much advice as it is insight that I hope you can find useful. I don't know how you will overcome these barriers because the ways people surpass them is unique to that person, but you will overcome them. This is a common challenge to most teens, and is a part of the growth process. In general, I think the more comfortable you are in your own skin, the easier the transition will be for you. Good luck, and Happy Holidays.

Most importantly, you need to be yourself. At first your fears will be hard to overcome, but eventually it will be smooth sailing. Do you have a brother? A good guy friend? Just remember your friends are your friends for a reason. They like who you are. So show them who you are. Show others you dont know, who you are. There is no need to hide anything. Nerves will pass. But for the first few times, they will be there. But just dont think into it too much...Think of what could come of just simply saying "hello" to a guy that walks by. I mean really, whats the worst that can happen?! He doesn't say "hi" back..Oh well!! But he could say something back, and conversation could just start to flow. Day by day, it will get easier. .. Again, don't be afraid to be yourself.

Put yourself into settings where there are more boys. Believe me I was horribly shy till I was 20 and I went to work at a restaurant which forced me to be social. It was a big party all the time and they loved the shy boy!!!! You just have to learn what you are and be proud of it and love it. I am better but at 30 still really shy!! If you want more in depth just im me and I will do what I can to help as I hated being shy and remember those horrible days.........Just being yourself is step one!!!!

when the time comes, it will happen. Maybe you should just let go of your idea of needing someone to care for you other than your parents and God that way you can really talk to them at ease.
Whenever there is an expectation, it causes shyness and everything else that hinders something to happen.

take a deep breath and stay as calm as you can. go up to a guy and say hello, he'll say hi back and be like "so you play football right" or whatever sport he plays, hell say yeah. ask what position and just continue on from there. practice the conversation b4 it happens and listen carefully to the guy. make sure that you think b4 u speak.

it takes time to not get to nervous, i used 2 b really shy 2, but i just started talking to them one day and now i have a lot of friends that r guys.

good luck, and stay clam, guys are humans just the same as girls!
