when you put the computer on 'sleep', all the programs and windows that you have open will close hence you free up used memory. with 'hibernate', all the programs/windows stay open and running.

Putting the computer on 'sleep' mode, also known as stand by, is a suspended state, like if you need to power off to not waste electricity. It leaves everything open and turns the monitor off, and when you return, you can simply shake the mouse or tap the keyboard, and it'll 'wake up'.
Hibernation is a mode that's for if you're going away for a longer period of time. More memory is used for hibernation, as the computer has to make a backup of its current state to go to 'sleep'. Plus no power is used when your computer hibernates.
Basically, sleep mode is for quick abscence time and uses little power.
Hibernation is for when you're gone for a long time and uses no power.

Sleep leaves the workstation on yet specific instruments powered off. Hibernate saves each and every little thing in memory in a document on your stressful stress, turns the workstation off. whilst grew to become decrease back on it lots each and every little thing decrease back in to memory and maintains the place you left off. Sleep mode is for once you is purely no longer using the workstation for a couple of minutes to an hour. Hibernate can keep each and every little thing indefinitely.
