Haha, I got engaged last night too...so happy!!! Congrats to you!! :) It's definitely overwhelming...my advice...DON'T look at a wedding planning book right away! I did that last night, just leafed through it, and had to put it down, because it was overwhelming, seeing everything that needs to be done. I decided till after new years, the only thing we're going to plan is the date. And we can enjoy just being engaged and calling each other fiance. After these next 2 weeks, we'll start researching. What fun is it being engaged if the stress starts in right after?? Good luck to you!

Congratulations!
Yes, you definately should get more information. You may want to ask your fiance what he wants too!

There should always be bridal shows in your area. You may never know, there may be a reasonably priced wedding planner there. Get your mom, and your friends to give you advice and help you out. Also, once you scope out a great set of invitations, dresses, flowers, ring pillows etc., you should check online before you sign any store's dotted line. I was able to find custom made invitations with a special flap for about 1/5 the cost of in store things.

Also, you can get plenty of ideas from magazines and wedding books. Ebay ebay ebay. There are so many brides that just want to get rid of magazines and books and things

Honestly if you have a small wedding its no big worry.

I had a 250 person wedding in a beautiful reception area and had the help of a wedding planner and the whole thing cost me under $10,000.

The key is being patient, figuring out whats most important to you, and trying to find deals on the stuff that is not as important.

First you need is money, if you have it, then you can marry next month, but if you dont have it, you will need at least one year to plan your dream's wedding. Remember, the wedding will be just once in your life. After it, if you think, it wasn't as good you would like, you cant marry next year. So, money is very important depending of what you want.

Second, remember, you are getting married, and you invite the people you want to share with you that special moment in your life. So, think about them. What do people like? What kind of music do you think your family and friends will enjoy and what kind of food also. These 2 things are the most important factors for a great wedding party.

If you want more suggestions, email me at miskeana@yahoo.com

I got married 2 years ago, and still my wedding is commented as the best people had been. I planned all by myself, everything was perfect, and everybodt enjoyed it till the end.

You just got engaged and you came on here for advice to plan your wedding?! Enjoy the next few days of just being engaged. My fiance and I waited a week before starting to plan and that was fine. Most people don't know how to plan a wedding and that's fine because you can have whatever kind of wedding you want. Basically, as long as you and your fiance are there as well as the wedding officiant and two witnesses and then you say vows and get the marriage license signed then that's all you need. Anything else you want to add is up to you.

congratulations! :)

the first thing i would advice you to do is discover or set your budget, and set the date for your wedding (just the month and year is a fantastic start).

then buy a diary, and some wedding mags.

note down when you want to plan and orgainse each part of your wedding.

e.g. January 2008 - set the date.
Feb - select wedding party and guest list
march - select location (and book it) for ceremony and reception.
april - select and order/purchace shoes, dress and veil.
may- select and order flowers and his suit.
june - select and order bridesmaids dresses, groomsmen suits
july - select and order flowers
august - select vows and book church/celebrant/judge
september - select and book reception meal/catering.
october - select and book transport
november- select and organise music
december - last minute changes.

and there you have it, your entire wedding organised with plenty of time to thoroughly research and decide on each topic. You will have the diary to note down times, prices schedules, plans, suggestions, ideas and sketches.
If you allow yourself a certain time in year you will feel organised and always progressive. i.e. you don't have to panic about flowers now because you KNOW you will be selecting and ordering them in July.

my husband and i organised and booked our entire wedding in 3 days. I bought a notebook and we were on a 3 day roadtrip, so we just jotted down our plans and when we got home we called everyone and organised it all. We got married just over a year later and it was a very relaxed and loving day without any stresses as we already had every detail taken care of. :)

It depends on how fancy you want to get. There are plenty of books and resources on this. Just remember, it is not about the festivities, it is about HIM -- and you. The most important thing to remember is, be patient, and listen. And don't spend more money that you have on a party. You will be just as married with a simple wedding. Best wishes! You will do fine.

he told you 20 minutes ago and you're not celebrating together or with your families or at least calling your loved ones???

as for planning, start on theknot.com and buy a few wedding magazines. do some research instead of relying on total strangers.

"tell me everything" .... that's kind of a bold statement. I don't think these yahoo text boxes are big enough. nor is your attention span I'm sure.

Enjoy the "Cloud 9" feeling!!

Once you're back down to earth, talk about about a date and a budget. Wedding magazines are always great help as they have a lot of time-line suggestions.

Congrats!

right now you should just enjoy it and him. Be happy!! I got engaged last night! It is an awesome feeling. Give it a few weeks and then start planning. Theknot.com has a lot of good information on it to help you out with all your planning.
I wish you the best!

first congratulations, now, you need to think about a few things... budget (are you paying or parents?) head counts, then that will tell you where you need to look. I had a very nice wedding. looking @ magazines and websites help too, talk to friends and family for feed back... but just remember that no matter what this day is about you and your hubby to be.
something I had done also for favors, I made a donation to 2 charities that meant something to my husband and I and made little scrolls for all our guests, I like that as opposed to something that will just gather dust.
