I haven't heard of it making people suicidal, but you might want to look into it just in case.
I work in a hospital, and we recently went smoke-free--no smoking by anyone, employees/pts/family anywhere on campus. Several people have started Chantix, and pretty much all of them report it's helped them a lot. One person quit w/in 1 month. Others have taken it and it has helped them not miss smoking during their (minimum) 12-h shift. I also do a lot of admissions, and when taking pt history, I have heard so many who have smoked for 50 years and are now smoke free & not missing it at all after using Chantix.
One thing I have noticed is that a lot of doctors prescribe wellbutrin to their pts who are using Chantix. That may very well be to offset any suicidal/depression tendencies of the pt while quitting smoking. So you might want to look into that, as well.
All in all, I've heard nothing but positive comments about the many people I've talked to who have taken it.
*as a side note, there has been a lot of talk about suicide attempts increasing when taking antidepressants--because the med clears the mind enough to be able to put a plan into action. If you feel this, make sure you talk to your doctor ASAP*

It didn't make me suicidal. All it did besides helping me quit a seventeen year habit was give me vivid dreams, constipation, and gas. If you aren't suicidal now it's not gonna make any difference. I know it sucks but get some Fleet glycerine suppositories. you'll thank me later. Good luck. I tried every other method to quit and the only thing that worked was Chantix. I went from smoking a pack and a half to half a pack a day in the first three days and i wasn't trying. The stuff is amazing.

I am using Chantix, and it is quite effective. I have been taking it now for six weeks, no hint of suicidal tendencies. I think that is mentioned because in testing perhaps one person out of thousands tested became suicidal. The chances of that in other words are very slim.
