I have lived in both countries. And while I am planning on moving back to NZ (I currently live in Australia) I would recommend moving to Australia. There are far more job opportunities and the wages are far better. There are also more benefits employees get. The health system is better, although is still not very good, but NZ's is worse.
In terms of safety, it depends where you live in each country. Australia is more prone to terrorism, but I think the government is doing a good job in preventing it (we have had no terrorist attacks yet). We have just elected a new government and they are pulling troops from Iraw next year so I think that will make Australia safer as well.
Safety in terms of violence, gangs, etc all depends on where you live. There are parts of Australia that are very unsafe, which is the same in NZ, and there are parts which are VERY safe in both countries.
The environment in Australia isn't as good as New Zealand. We have a water crisis and there are severe restrictions on how much water you can use. You aren't allowed to water plants whenever you like or wash your car, unless it's in a professional car wash that recycles water. There is little pollution though. New Zealand is much prettier and there is plenty of water. There's lots of rain there. Both governments are working on climate change.
Australia is also harder to get into. There are stricter controls on who comes in. That said, I still think it is worth trying Australia first because of the better working and living conditions. Then later if you like New Zealand better, move once you have a fair bit of money. Housing in Australia is much cheaper than in New Zealand, and interest rates are under 7% in Australia when they are over 10% in New Zealand.
Good luck!

Australia without a doubt. Currently approx 40,000 New Zealanders are moving permanently to Australia each year because the pay is higher, and the tax is lower. The weather is much better (except for doughts in oz and plenty of rain in NZ) - safety is about the same.

I dont have self assurance there's a grudge against nz? i think of the only people who do have grudges are prejudiced or racist. i'm a kiwi and lived in aus on the grounds that i became into 4 yrs previous. i admire the two international locations yet once you like a place to retire nz would be it. If whether you like a place to strengthen a relatives australia it somewhat is. Australia and nz are like maximum suitable pals. we % to take the piss out of one yet another yet we dont advise any harm.
