No it is not normal and happens only if you jump around and pound the floor creating HQs (House quakes) while the disk is spinning. The 360 on it's own actually carves a very definite circle into the discs, which is caused by a faulty drive.

No its not normal people have accussed the Original PS2 & the Xbox 360 for the blame of there scratched discs but the real cause is because there disc trays have dirt on em which can scratch the disc while spinning at high speed very easily and as far the PS3 it is very easy to scratch your games if you dont careful slide the disc in without hitting the edges so watch out.

That only happens if you're touching your discs, the system wont hurt the disc. (except the Xbox 360 can wear scratches onto it's discs)

The PS3 uses Blu Ray Discs, which have an extra coating of protection to protect the data so they're nearly impossible to scratch. None of my PS3 games have scratches, and I've had my PS3 since February.

No, it isn't normal. That means that there's a misalignment fault in the mechanism. Service needed (Unless you really jump around the house while playing, shake your console or live in the earthquake-rich area).
