If I do sit ups for 10 minutes straight every other day...how long would it take for me to get a flat tummy. I weigh 100 and stand at 4'11. I have a little chub but I would like to make that completely flat with no jiggle. The 10 minute sit ups i did last night are really hurting my stomach are in pain right now...

I'd recommend doing more variety and for longer than 40 minutes per day. For example you can work on straight leg raises, followed by bicyles, then leg throw downs. All of these target the lower abs basically below the belt. If you are concerned about the sides hanging out then you need to do more twists and sidebends. Eventually if you are serious about getting flattened and tones you will need to do some yoga or pilates.

As to why you are sore it's b/c you are out of shape and do not have enough exercise in your abs. You need to start slowly and that means instead of 30 minutes you can aim for 5 minute bursts of slowburn movements, i.e. leg raises, crunches, twists and/or sidebends. Good luck results will happen over time not overnight.

Sit ups will not flatten you tummy. It's a muscle exercise and is only used to tone your muscles. If you want to lose you stomach you will have to lose weight. Do a lot of intense cardio for about an hour. I recommend an elliptical machine.

well that's a bad start if you are not used to heavy exercises. Wat u can do is start with some basic exercises first for a warm-up and then do some stretches too loosen ur muscles. After these 2 steps you can do 8-10 sit ups.
you have a stomach pain now coz u did not loosen ur muscles. its very important to stretch before doing sit ups.
hope it helps.

Dear Audrey,

Dr Scholl's wood exercise sandals, will help flatten your stomach. The curling of toes, required with each step to keep them on, will work your abdominal muscles. You can simulate the effect, by picking up pencils with your toes.

its seriously impossible to get a stomach with no giggle at all. the amount of time doesnt matter. if you do sit ups, itll work the upper part of your stomach. do 40 of them, take a break, then do it again. butyou need to legit. do them. butt down, look at the ceiling, and work those abs, not that back. theres a ton of different exercises at seventeen.com or cosmogirl.com or shape magazine.

sit-ups suck, sorry the only thing sit-ups are meant to do is break apart the muscle tissue so that during muscle repair your abs build back bigger and stronger, to lose fat to it's pretty inefficient and even to build bigger abdominal muscles it's pretty inefficient. You need to simply lose fat, to get a flat tummy.

Diet is far more important than exercise but you need exercise to get into very low body fat % or to increase the rate of fat loss

BAsic diet tips:
- Eat your BMR (basic metaboic rate) in calories you can google one.
- Eat 20% of your intake as fat try to include monounsaturated and polyunsaturated as much as you can instead of sat. fat, don't completely take sat. fat out though you need it to promote testosterone.
-Eat your calories in several 6-8 meals a day, I could write papers on why this is so important but in a nutshell feed your body as it needs it.
-Time your macronutrients, carbs and fat are the two macronutrients that will turn to fat, protien extremely rarely will turn to fat. You want to eat carbs before your workout whether it be lifting or cardio, and thrice after your workout in 6 hours, one immediatly, one 3 hours from that mark and another 6 hours from that mark. Do not eat carbs around times where your not active. Spread your fat calories out through the 6-8 small meals, add a little fat to a very lean meal, like a tablespoon of flaxseed oil.
-Eat protien EVERY meal. Every meal of the day it's important to supply your body with protien, for all functions, for repairing your muscle tissue after workouts, it's very thermogenic so it will increase your metabolic rate slightly, a lean protien diet lowers your insulin levels which makes burning fat easier... again lotta reasons.
-Drink plenty of water, if you don't drink enough your metabolism won't run at 100%, plus u'll feel hungrier.
-Consume any Fiber in the morning (along with protien) to kind of kick start your metabolism if that makes sense. It helps your body start burning calories right away.
-get plenty of vitamins and minerals, take a multivitamin if you have to because it will keep your metabolism running at a higher calorie intake.
-Your macronutrient ratio should be higher in protien than it is in carbs. Always stick with 20% fat
-Fight your will to starve yourself, because you won't lose anymore fat you'll only lose muscle.

exercise tips:
If your doing cardio, which is most popular, steady and low intensity cardio can be done as much as you want. Most people suggest at least 40 minutes 3 times a week at minimum, but you can do far more than that.
High-intensity workouts are better in the long run such as HIIT, it is EXTREMELY time efficient, it's the only way to get into very low levels of bodyfat for most people. Google hiit to get an idea of how much better it is.
During weight loss people tend to tell you not to lift weights, however lifting to sustain or tone (high reps) is a very good way to increase your rmr alot (resting metabolic rate) it promotes muscle growth so your diet is less catabolic, (muscle loss) there are so many health benefits of it... I could go on forever.
don't exercise too soon before bed, and Make sure you exercise at a time where you can get your post-nutition every few hours.

edit: lol at whoever gave me a thumbs down, do some research on how fast sit-ups will get ya a flat stomach.
