I have a wonderful teacup chihuahua named Karma (as in good Karma) - she is a wonderful dog - she tends to be very clingy and wants to be held all the time - she is paper trained but will only urinate on the paper - she saves the doggy bombs for another area - we have moved the paper there but she will not go on it - I have found that because she is so small (4 pounds) and has no body fat I need to dress her in t-shirts / sweaters in the colder months - I love to take her places with me and my son (15 years old - linebacker for the football team) loves to take her with him all the time - he says the girls all crowd around to see the cute puppy - this is our first chihuahua and I would get another one in a heart beat but as with all things in life each dog is a person unto themselves.

My chihuahua was really shy and didn't do anything but laid around all day. He was only about a year old.. and then a coyote came into our yard and ate him. But we took care of a friend's chihuahua and that thing was so hyper and crazy! He ran around everywhere. But then, a coyote came and ate him too.. I'm serious, by the way. Oh, I also had another chihuahua, but he was mixed with something else. He was VERY yappy. He barked day and night. Whenever he sensed any type of movement outside or inside, he barked. I guess he was a good protective dog, not that he could save us from anyone.

So anyways, I don't know what you mean by "good dogs". Good as in.. friendly? Yes, they're friendly dogs, most of the time. Depends if they're mixed with another breed. They tend to be very hyper and excited. But they don't really bite or anything and they're usually small and harmless. But if you mean good as in like, a companion-type-working-play-fetch-with type of dog like the golden or labrador retrievers, then no, I don't think chihuahuas are good dogs, in that sense at least.

They are wonderful dogs. They are spunky, protective and great doorbells. They let you dress them up, cuddle, run with you, fetch and do tricks. They are very smart. I've trained my two to do many neat tricks and they picked up everything so quickly. You can just about take them anywhere. Just remember to keep them warm in the cold. They shouldn't be handled alot by small children...their bones are not as thick and strong as big dogs and they are a little jittery..... little children make a lot of sudden moves that scare them and may handle them too rough.

As opposed to what?

All dogs are good dogs if they are well bred, well treated and trained.

You rarely hear of a chihuahua tearing someone's throat out, doesn't mean they can't be nasty if they aren't raised properly.

they are ugly, not at all a girly dog. and shake all the time, they do bark so maybe a good dog at least to scare someone trying to break in but once in the dog has to chance.

they never stop yapping and are very high strung, they should be on tranquilizers. if you like small dogs check out terriers like a yorkie, silkie and so on. they are pretty, intelligent, low maintence, dedicated, friendly and on and on.

To some, they are, but to others...no. In my opinion, they are the most obnoxious breed of dog.
