I treat my PS3 the same way I treat my PS2.Just take something like a small brush or tooth brush (not a used one lol) and clean the vents if dust cloggs up on em and buy a soft cloth to wipe your PS3 which wont scratch the gloss finish which is very easy to do and make sure the connectors arent surrounded by dust.

Dust is sucked in the vent's area, some can get via CDs. You can protect PS3 by covering it with a piece of cloth (when the console is off). Don't cover it with plastic, humidity builds underneath it. As answers above say - you can use pressurized air and small vacuum cleaners used for computer cleaning (not the household or car vacuum cleaners, of course). Don't use those dust-smoke-preventing devices - they can cause your system to overheat.

You can never prevent dust build up. However, what you can do is go to walmart or any electronics store and buy air in the can. When dust does build up you can open your system and/or computer and blow it down with a can-o-air. dust really does harm when it builds up around your fan and laser.

one thing i don't suggest is blocking the air vents, as these are designed to allow the system to stay cool and ventilated. Use a damp cloth for the outside of the machine. If there is a large quantity of dust on the inside i don't suggest opening it up yourself as this may viod the warranty. Take it to the shop you bought it from and ask them if they could clean it.
