I have a 7 year old male pug who for a year now has been drinking lots of water, very frenquently and then needs to go out to pee. Is this normal in older dogs the lack of being able to hold their pee. If we aren't home to let him out, he pees all over the bathroom floor. Other than this, he's healthy

I would like to add he is fully house broken since the age of 6 months.

Actually, it could be a sign of a urine infection or kidney infection. If so, catch it before it gets bad. But, then again it could be age. But, 7 years old is not terribly old. I think you should take the doggie to a vet.

I would take him to the vet for a full health check. When dogs do that it can be a sign of diabeties. But some meds will help.

If your dog has a urinary tract infection it won't go away by itself, in fact some dogs develop stones if it's left untreated which requires surgery. You need to have your dog vet checked. Good luck.

I'm no vet, but dogs with diabetes act as you describe.
Have your dog checked by a medical professional.

He could easily have a bladder infection which is more common than you might think in dogs.

This behavior can be linked to several canine diseases, one of them being diabetes, another bladder cancer. Please contact your vet. You are fortunate that he is otherwise healthy, it may help him if he does have a problem. Good Luck.
