Generic Name: meperidine and promethazine

Meperidine is a narcotic pain reliever.
Promethazine is an anti-nausea medication.
The meperidine and promethazine combination is used to treat moderate to severe pain.

When the wisdom teeth erupt it gives lot of pain and hence you have been given Meprozine, to relive from pain.

Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Take this medicine with a full glass of water. Drink plenty of water to prevent constipation that may be caused by meperidine and promethazine. If this medication upsets your stomach, take it with food or milk. Meperidine may be habit-forming. Do not change your dose of this medicine without your doctor's advice. Call your doctor if you think the medicine is no longer working as well in relieving your pain. -

Meprozine is similar to Mepergan in that it contains Meperidine (Demerol), an opioid drug & Promethazine (Phenergan), an antihistamine. Promethazine reduces the itchies as well as nausea you get when taking opioids. It also boosts the effects of any opioid without increasing tolerance (ie, you get the same effect from a higher dose when taking it with promethazine).
Few things to note:
1) This combination can increase the addiction liability of the Meperidine. Meperidine in particular, may be more addictive than other opioids like codeine or hydro or morphine, because it also exerts a cocaine-like effect.
2) Almost all opioids cause constipation. Phenergan also causes constipation by itself. So combining it with an opioid can result in ungodly constipation. Please make sure you're getting enough fibre.
3) Promethazine can temporarily increase your liver enzyme count. Try not to use this drug for too long and if you have any liver issues, please tell your dentist. He may prescribe something else
4) Demerol's metabolite builds up in the system and can cause toxicity (respiratory depression, psychiatric disturbances etc.). Yet another reason to be careful not to use more than what's prescribed to you and to space your doses apart evenly. It should be taken every 4-6 hours despite the fact that the analgesia only lasts for about 3 hours.
5) Promethazine causes a lot of drowsiness. This is exacerbated when it's combined with an opioid like Demerol. This is worsened if you mix alcohol or sedatives/benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax etc.) with it.

Hope this helps

NB: Do NOT use alcohol when taking this med. The respiratory depression can be profound!

Also, are you on any kind of anti-depressants? Just asking because of potential drug interactions. NEVER ever take this med with a Monoamine Oxide Inhibitor (whether natural or pharmaceutical eg.furazolidone, isocarboxazid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine, and sibutramine).
