My family is somewhat dysfunctional and is not very connected. During the holidays, it is not uncommon for us not to get together. This really saddens me because I would like to have a close family like I see that others have. I am the oldest of 4 kids and my parents are not the most assertive, so if anything were to happen, it would be my doing. Anyone else dealing with this situation? If so, any advice?

Have a family party during the holidays..lunch and just a few hours together; and then do it again next year and so on until you have built a family tradition of getting together at least once a year. My own family is scattered over a pretty wide area and even those of us who live near each other rarely spend time together but my mother used to have a boxing-day family gathering and all of us tried to be there.

I face the same situation. So lonely during the festive as our family members are not close knitted. Really envy those with big gathering joy and laughter and great tales to tell one another.

I have no answers but I will be looking up for answers too..

Wow, 7 min & no takers. I get the feeling there are a lot of people sharing what u are going through. Unfortunately, you may be the one to initiate it & probably oragnize it (set the date, time, the where). You're strong spirited for a reason, use it ;-l
