In general if speaking in tongues is even remotely true, there must be an interpreter of tongues present. This I have never seen or heard an interpreter of tongues. Still would love to meet one.

Its part of the plan of salvation. When you receive the HG w/ speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance.It means its the birth of the spirit.People aren't making it up. They are submitting their will to God's will. The tongue is the hardest thing to tame the Bible says. Its given to us to give us power over the devil.Also, to make us a powerful witness for God.See Acts 2:38-9,John 3:5, Acts 1:8, Romans 8:9. I have the HG and its a wonderful,peaceful,uplifting,joyful experience. See Romans 14:17, I Cor. 6:11, I Cor. 12:13, Ephesians 1:13-14, Titus 3:, I John 3:24.

There are some who make it up, and some who are delusional.
The purpose of "tongues", according to scripture, is so that evangelists can spread the "word of God" to people who do not speak or understand his language. The "holy spirit" is to descend upon him, and enable him to speak in the language of those he's witnessing to. That's the only purpose of "tongues".
The incoherent babbling you hear done nowadays has NOTHING to do with what the Bible says. Tongues was supposed to be a gift to the listeners--not the speakers. The people who are showing off with incoherent babble are not giving a gift of anything but their own inflated ego. ("Look! I've been given a GIFT! Lucky me!")

The Bible is behind it.
Have you ever read the Bible?
Read Mark chapter 16 where Jesus said those who believe would speak in new tongues or languages.
Read the whole book of Acts.
Read 1 Corinthians chapters 11 thru 14.
When the Bible says "pray in the Spirit" its talking about praying in tongues.

it is the evidence that you have the Holy Ghost and part of salvation and is still being given today, and yes I have the Holy Ghost with evidence of Speaking in Tongues
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Act 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

According to Acts it is a sign for the non believing. I have been around people who speak in tongues quite extensively. Most of what I've seen is impossible to make up. There are a few I've seen as well that I feel are making it up.
