Sodium laurel sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate and anything ending in -cone and -xane. The sulfates are what help the shampoo to lather, but they also strip the hair and scalp of natural oils. The cones and xanes can build up on hair and coat hair, so that the styling products that you use just sit on the top of your hair instead on penetrating the hair.

Some alcohols are bad, some are not. The worst alcohol is isopropyl, but this is found more in styling products (spritz, hair spray) than in shampoos and conditioners. I can't say that I have ever seen isoprpyl alcohol in a shampoo.

Hope this helps.

There are different sulfates that are put into shampoos, they are usually the harshest ingredient in the shampoos. I can't recall which is which, but the more expensive salon shampoos usually have a different sulfate that's not as harsh but doesn't sud as much, and the store brand shampoos have a harsher sulfate that suds well. That's what I know from the top of my head, you can also check out this website:

It has lists of products and with all the ingredients, and info on the ingredients.

Sodium lauryl sulfate is not good .....
It's been said that excess use of it causes cancer, but this is not proved yet
