Grandma's Sugar Cookies
2 eggs
3 cups sugar
1 ½ cups shortening
1 ½ cups milk
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch of salt
Flour enough to roll (or as it turns out usually 7 1/2 to 8 cups)
Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Beat eggs and add to sugar/shortening mixture. Stir in milk and vanilla. Add baking soda, baking powder and salt to a cup of flour and stir in. Add enough flour to roll dough. At this point you may chill the dough. Turn out about a fifth of the dough onto a flour covered board or pastry cloth. Roll about ¼" thick, and cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Bake at 350º for 14 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Cool and frost.

Grandma's Sugar Cookies
These tender cookies will become your family's favorite. To make Christmas cookies, frost them with any frosting tinted with food coloring, and decorate using edible glitter, nonpariels, jimmies, and sprinkles.
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup shortening or butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2-3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup milk
PREPARATION:
In large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla and mix well.
Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Add alternately to shortening mixture with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Cover dough and chill in refrigerator for 4 hours or overnight. (If chilled overnight, let dough sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before rolling out.)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. On lightly floured surface, roll out dough using floured rolling pin to about 1/4" thickness. Cut with cookie cutters. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 350 degrees F for 7-10 minutes until very light golden brown around edges. Let cool on cookie sheets for about a minute, then remove to wire rack to cool completely.

Check out www.wilton.com
Go to their recipes section and you'll find their sugar cookie recipe. It is really a good one. I had to adapt it because my hubby can't eat gluten and I think I altered the recipe so I use 50/50 Crisco and butter. The butter gives the cookie a richer taste.
Good luck and have fun baking cookies!
