I was orginally really scared of getting a job too when I was younger. All of my friends were getting jobs our sophomore year of highschool, but I waited until my senior year. What helped me was having a friend go with me when I applied. We made jokes about the places I was thinking about working, took a little initiative and joked around with the management to get a feel of how the place was going to be, and I ended up picking the job that was the most fun to interview at. Plus, it paid pretty well too. It's just a lot of footwork. You've just gotta take a deep breath (and maybe a friend along LOL) and do it.

I guess it's fear of the unknown. But also because looking for a job is a horrible thing to do, that it's easier not to even bother. Remember once you've got a job it's not really that bad. You can make new friends, earn some money, and if you like the work then you'll wonder what there was to worry about in the first place!

I think that it is more of the fear of the unknown that is causing the anxiety rather than getting a job itself as another postee mentioned. One is better off Not going job hunting along with a friend as it would allow one to look more independent and even professional to apply to various places by oneself :) If you are going to apply at a mall store and only feel comforable going there with someone else such as a friend, perhaps meeting up about 20 minutes later on at the food court, for example, is a better idea, know what I mean. Just please make sure that one never wears jeans, sneakers, half/short or low-cut tops or open toe shoes as that won't look professional whether applying for a job, going to an interview or even within the workplace.

You will do great! Just please prepare for the interview (not to make you more nervous ;) with possible questions including 'what are your strengths and weaknesses' (that's a trick question 'between us and the wall' and one should Never say anything negative about oneself), 'why should we hire you', 'tell me about when you had a conflict with someone and how you resolved it'. It doesn't necessarily mean that you will get asked those questions but they are just examples of some. If the interviewer/manager asks you if you have any questions, you can ask 'how long has this store (or establishment) been in business', 'how many stores are there within the region', 'do you think that I'm going to get the job' ;-) Asking meaningful questions shows a level of intelligence rather than saying 'no, I don't have any questions' :)

They will most likely want to know basic info such as the hours in which you are available, and they may ask for some work/professional (as opposed to personal) references.
Please do ask those people if you can use them on your application(s) so that they are not caught off-guard with a potential employer asking them about you and your reliability and such. The place that you did community service for may be able to give you a reference. Don't bring up salary until the very end of the interview unless the interviewer brings the topic up first, and they generally recommend saying that 'salary is negotiable' on applications as well as during interviews so that one does not overbid or underbid.

Sometimes the process of looking for a job is more frightening than doing the work. Some people know that finding something they like, putting themself in a position to be rejected, and selling yourself to a hiring manager is uncomfortable. It's a comfort zone that needs to be overcome to make you stronger and more confident. Just know that rejection is part of life....don't avoid taking action

We don't know you, the only one that knows is you! It's probably the responsibility, realizing that you are becoming an adult, or maybe you are afraid that you will not be able to do what is required from you. if that's the case, don't worry you will be fine.

Don't worry. You are still very young. You don't work there for your whole life. You just work there for a little money and experience. Good luck.
