If you use nose spray too much you will have a stuffy nose. It is a rebound affect. I don't know why, but I know it is true. He would have to suffer a while to stop using the spray.

Afrin works by constricting blood vessels in the nose. When he uses it chronically, it's thought the mucous membranes become starved for oxygen because their vessels are constricted so often. When the Afrin starts wearing off the blood flow returns and the membranes start swelling because they were damaged. This causes congestion. Then he takes it again to decrease the blood flow and damages the tissues even more. This is why he's getting nosebleeds now, because he's damaging the inside of his nose. Apparently this can lead to nasal polyps if continued long enough.
He needs to suck it up and wean himself off the Afrin. He should see a doctor to see if there's a medication they can prescribe that will make this easier, sometimes corticosteroid nasal sprays are used for this. If he has underlying allergies they might prescribe an antihistamine to treat that.

Well
Visit this site. It's the best online resource about nasal polyps http://nasalpolyps.toptips.org
Thousands of people have nasal polyps. I was one of them once. They can be very irritating as well as quite ugly!!! Frankly speaking, the cause of Nasal Polyps is not known exactly to anyone. It is believed that these are mainly caused due to the allergies and in a few cases by cystic fibrosis. Nasal Polyps are not actually a disease; they are caused due to the inflammation in the nose or sinuses. Experts believe that cells in the nose and sinuses get accumulated by fluids which are pulled down by gravity to cause polyps.
I was able to get rid of nasal polyps permanently and most importantly without the use of any kind of medication. I followed this method that I recommend http://nasalpolyps.toptips.org
I hope it helps

i just want to share my experience of stuffy nose. I used to use a nasal spray twice a day to get some relief until I discovered a simple exercise to replace it. I just move my shoulders round and round to relieve my stuffed nose. I hope it also helps your boyfriend.

It's very common. He needs to visit his MD, an allergist or an ear, nose and throat specialist.
