Also, with hugging, is it true that if same-gendered people hug, it's supposed to be criss crossed, & with male hugging female, female is supposed to have her arms around the guy's neck while the guy has his arms around her waist? That's what I was always taught. Just like they say you should always shake hands with your right hand & wear your watch on your left wrist.

Hugs between friends, whether male or female, always end at the waist. Where the arms go is not tricky. Family hugs are also done this way. When a female puts her arms around a males neck, this brings her body close to him, meaning touching below the waist. This position is meant for couples to move toward each other in an intimate way. People who shake hands with the right hand are right-handed Lefties sometimes reach with their left hands. Watches are worn usually on the left hand for righties and on the right hand for lefties. Some people do different, but most people follow that pattern. .

Depending on the height of the person I'm giving a hug to, I hug above the waist with my arms folded across their backs. If the person is shorter than I am, my arms go about the neck area.

Deoends on the height of the guy you are hugging. If they are tall, I go for just above the waist and they have their arms around my shoulders. You can get in closer that way. My head on his chest. Just kinda comfortable like that!

It all depends on who you are hugging. When I hug my arms go around the waist and fold up to the shoulder blades. Very strange now that I think of it.

There are no gender rules to hugging that I'm aware of. It just sort of works out different with different people. I think the heights of the individuals has a lot to do with it also.
