i know this may seem like a dumb question but i was just wondering about it. the topic came up in school today for some random reason. Is it illegal to date someone who is 20 (im 16) and not have sex? he wears a purity ring so theres no way we're going to. its not like i have a problem with it. my parents are fine with it because they really like him. I was just wondering if it was illegal. thanks.

Sex with an underage person is illegal - I can't see how anyone could get in trouble if you're not involved in that.

As long as your parents are okay with it and your bf is courteous and respectful towards you, then I don't see a problem with it. Just remember there is a big difference comparing a 16 year old with a 20 year old (emotional/maturity levels).

Best of luck to you both!

Depends on where you live, some states have a 3 year rule, even if you aren't having sex if they are over 3 years older than it is. It's best to look up age of concent laws for your state because some places consider that the basis.

Check the chart and find out.

Some places also have it that if the older party is 21 or over and you are under 18 it is illeagal.

It depends on what state you live in and what the age of consent is. Most states it's 16 and some states it's 17 or 18. Even if you aren't having sex there could be problems, but not likely because your parents like him so they wouldn't lie and tell the police there is sex involved. Questions like this aren't stupid... Better safe than sorry!

Alegria B...You need to chill! DAYUM...knickers in a knot?

I was just talking to co workers today about this very subject. A 14 year old child was picked up from LIVING with her 20 year old boyfriend...EVEN though the child's MOTHER had written a note for the 20 year old boyfrend saying it was OK with her for her daughter to be with him. He presented the note to the police. Evidence they will surely use against the mother.

I would check with the law in the state where you live. It could be reported by a third party and an investigation could happen.

But ask yourself this...why isn't he with a woman his own age?

It is fine if it is alright with your parents. You can have a relationship without sex at that age and it is legal.

I think that as long as your parents are okay with it, then you should be fine as long as there is no sexual activity involved
