The house behind my bedroom window is being demolished. The noise is so loud not only am I unable to sleep, I can't spend any time in my room at all. It goes from 7am-6pm every day.

I have spoken to the city code person and called the police. The police told me to write a letter and get a petition. The city code guy told me that wouldn't do anything.

I've tried ear plugs, putting foam over my windows, blankets over my head, nothing works and now I'm sleeping in the living room, where I can still hear them.

Is there any legal way to get them to change the times they work to 11am?
If there's no legal way, could you give me ways to stem the sound?

7am to 8pm is the time that is usually covered by noise ordinances. So if they are shutting off at 6pm they are doing what they are supposed to do. So earplugs are my suggestion. I assume you must work at night?

If female, flash the workers. Once you have their attention, hold up sign asking for quite so you can get your sleep.

If male, an occasional warning to the workers would probably work. Aim just over their heads.

House can't be that big that demo is taking any more than 2-3 days. Try a hotel.

Unfortunately thats how the government is. They dont care about you. Since its just a house, it shouldnt take long to finish it. Try staying at a relatives house until they get done. Theres prolly nothing you can do cuz thats our run down country for ya! Oh yea, try a box fan... I sleep with one every night just for noise. Point it away from you if it gets cold. That and Tylenol PM

Wear ear plugs and gloves when you burn the house down. The only noise will be the sirens on the fire engines.

It must be a really big house for it to go on for more that a few days. Why not just ignore it and it will be over soon enough?

Must be one heck of a house, my brother's company can demolish a normal house and haul it away. If they have the paperwork, you just have todeal with it.

perhaps find out who the former owner of the house is/owner responsible for the demolition work and let him/her know that this is inconveniencing you greatly? if there's no other way they can change work times, perhaps you could move into a hotel for the time being and ask the owner for compensation for your incurred living costs.

File a case of mandamus in court to stop the workers from making loud noises due to demolition during sleeping time.

Sorry but 7am is not an unreasonable time for construction to start, and you're not going to get it moved to 11am.
