Depends on the size of the bag. Look at how many oz are in it. 8 oz in a cup.

The number of ounces on the bag is weight. Asking about cups is volume. The two don't relate so easily. For a typical 11-12oz bag sold in the US with the most common size/shape of chips, it's around 2 cups. Mini-chips will tend to have less volume for the same weight. Chunks vary. Most recipes that call for chips are talking about typical Tollhouse or Nestle. A pound of those will be around 3 cups.

For cookies etc., numbers like this don't matter much unless you're making some ridiculously huge quantity. If you're melting the chocolate for something else (like fudge), you can get much better chocolate for the same price. Whatever you do, if you're melting them then you probably have a derpy recipe, find one that goes by weight. This applies to a lot of things, such as flour. If it's asking for a volume of flour in cups but doesn't specify sifted, spooned, or packed, then it's probably a hack recipe for fools who don't know how to cook.

Please ignore the best response above: 8 weighted ounces of chocolate chips do NOT equal 8 measured ounces. In fact a 10 1/2 to 12 ounce bag is about 2 cups.

You cannot convert weight to volume. All the other people who answered are wrong. This would be the same as trying to convert inches to pounds; it can't be done.

Try looking at it this way: What would weigh more a cup of lead pellets or a cup of feathers?

The morons who invented the English System gave the same unit name (ounces) to both volume and weight. They are not the same!!

I looked on gourmetsleuth.com. They have a program that gives approximations from volume to weight. According to them a 110 oz package of chocolate chips contains about 13.5 cups.

Hope this helps
