We are going to dinner with my husband's boss tonight. His boss has given my husband a truly wonderful bonus this year and I am wondering when is the best time to say thank you and how to say thank you during the meal? Thank you all for your answers.

P.S. There will be another co-worker there who got the same bonus as my husband.

Well, I don't think it's really appropriate to say, "thanks for the great bonus," But at the end, when you are all leaving, kindly shake the his hand and say "Thank you very much for everything".

Well, congrats to your husband on his bonus I know everyone waits on that Christmas bonus, even here in my own household. How nice to have been invited for dinner, but your putting to much stress on the situation which means, you will show an awkwardness infront of your husbands boss. You should go to dinner and enjoy the evening talk and enjoy the food and atmosphere and just like any evening out that you may share with friends and family members and recieve a gift,at the end of the evening, you say your good byes and of course, say "Thank you for dinner and everything." Wish them Happy Holidays and be on your way. There is really no way to personally say "Thank You for the big bonus Mr. So-n-so. It's up to your husband if he wants to take his boss to the side and say "thank you" that really has nothing to do with you. But other then that, just remember at the end of the evening be grateful and say "thank you". There really isn't much to it.

Your husband should have said thank you for his bonus when he first got it. Dinner is a social occasion and the only thing you should be thanking the boss for is the meal, and that as you're leaving the restaurant.

It's a nice opener when you get your first drink or bottle of wine and make the opening toast. That is usually when people say something about the reason for the dinner or have the opportunity to say thank you for something special.

Say thanks for the dinner and write them a thank you card that includes thanking him for the bonus. Don't talk about the bonus at or after the dinner.

I agree with your first answerer, that is the classiest way to do it but its up to your husband to give the thanks, not you.
