A charged battery and a compact flash memory card and you have all you need. If you know little about the camera, until you know more, turn the camera on and turn the mode dial to green, which is an all automatic mode. If you are inside, unless the ISO is bumped way up, the flash will automatically pop up. Any pics you take in this mode will be ok, but when you want better images, spend some time with the camera's manual and consider getting an external flash that can tilt for bounce flash.

First, READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual for your camera.
Then READ & STUDY it some more.
This is the only way you can learn to actually use and enjoy your camera.
