Yep, Antoni, it's OK to say it because the whole world gets the message.

Oh, umm... happy non-denominational work stoppage period!

I can't find it right now, but I actually has a short piece published in our local paper about this. I hate the sanitization of the holiday greetings. "Seasons Greetings" is the worst. It means nothing to anybody. "Happy Holidays" is not too far behind. My opinion is that, unless you KNOW that someone will be offended by the greeting (due to different religious beliefs or general bah-humbug nature), it is far better to say "Merry Christmas" and MEAN IT in good spirit than to dilute the sentiment by being politically correct in your greeting. If society tries to remove "Merry Christmas" from our palette of expression, then I would be inhibited from offering a seasonal greeting of my choice as would anyone and everyone else. In America, we need to remember that this country was founded on the principle of religious freedom (even though we interpret that differently now than those fleeing England did in the 1600's) and we need to celebrate our diversity by maintaing the custom of offering the heartfelt wish for good feelings embodied in saying, "Merry Christmas," without fear. If you say this to me, I am in NO WAY OFFENDED and I think anyone who is is rather thin-skinned and self-centered. Nobody is trying to convert by saying Merry Christmas. They just want to share the joy.

And here's a photo for YOU!

Merry Christmas to you as well, Antoni. And so that everyone knows, Christmas isn't necessarily only a Christian holiday but a combination of the commemoration of the birth of Christ and other secular customs having to do with many winter celebratory traditions. I think the holiday spirit is universal in that many different people of many different religions celebrate the holiday. I think most people simply enjoy the social nature of having a winter celebration to warm their spirits during the winter months. When I was a practicing Christian, many years ago I had many Jewish friends who celebrated both Hanukkah and Christmas. The only difference being my attendance to Christmas Eve Mass. We all got to open presents the next morning, which was the best part as far as I was concerned. Ironically, in a attempt to apease non-Christians, many retailers in the US attempted to do away with the term 'Merry Christmas' in favor of Happy Holidays a couple of years ago as a way not to offend non-Christians. The outrage caused the lowest sales they had seen in many years, as more than just Christians were apparently offended by the phrases omission. They subsequently brought the original phrase, Merry Christmas, back. I think folks should just lighten up and enjoy the holidays, stable story or not.

Peace.

I never did understand why people get offended when in our own different ways we try and honor others.

If I say Merry Christmas, I'm saying it in a spirit of love and faith. yes, it is based in my religion...but why would it offend you?

I'm not offended when my muslim co-workers bless me in the name of Allah. They know I am Christian, but that i understand that they are only wishing me the best, in the highest compliment they have to offer.

So in that vain, and now that everyone knows where I am coming from:

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!

Say it if you want, Antoni. And I'll say a Merry Christmas back to you! Nice purple hue in that picture. Another tranny scan with reciprocity, right?

I have come to the conclusion that everyone should say it, so that it loses meaning and significance.

As Trotsky wisely said, "Religions are illogical primitive ignorance. There is nothing as ridiculous and tragic as a religious government."

Merry Christmas!

Hey, I say Merry Christmas to my Jewish and Hindu friends and they say Happy Hanukkah and Happy Diwali to me! What is bad about wishing a happy day to any fellow human?
