Unfortunately, undocumented workers are being exploited because employers know they can pay them substandard wages. Then they drive down wages for the immigrants who come here legally and for American citizens. I don't believe we should deport undocumented workers because it would cost the US taxpayers even more to deport them then they're costing us now. I also don't believe in building a fence as fences do not make good neighbors. The undocumented workers who are here should be given a path to citizenship so they can begin paying taxes, etc. Then we need to enforce our current immigration laws and fine those who would hire undocumented workers to discourage more undocumented workers from coming to the US and to discourage employers from exploiting people whose only goal is to find work and improve the lives of themselves and their families.

What's the real point of your question?
Are you just a troll?
Legal Mexican immigrants are no more likely to do that kind of work than immigrants from any other country.
My Great Grandfather worked in cotton fields, for low pay and no benefits, even though he had several years of experience as a tailor in Czechoslovakia, so his children and grand children would not have to, not for someone else, anyway.
I am grateful for that.
Starting on the bottom of the bottom, in this or any other country, is not something people used to take as a personal insult. People were tougher and not so full of themselves back then, with a few exceptions, and you can watch movies about them.
They were the criminals who are such a famous part of American culture. What those stupid movies don't accurately depict are, the really tough people who took it on the chin, for a time, for the sake of their families.
You seem like a person who has more respect for the immigrant criminals in the movies than the real tough guys of that, long since bygone era of mass immigration.
I bet you instinctively snear when you imagine people working with their hands in the hot sun, because you really do believe you are better than them, just like you are trying to imply about Americans.

first of all if they are legal immigrants they don't work for low pay. They have to be paid what the laws say as legal residents.
As far as the benefits go many AMERICAN people don't get benefits so don't lay that BS here. That is the companys' they work for choices.
Yes I am grateful for my job, pay and benefits because I went to school to better myself and that allows me this job.
Nice try but your comments are weak.

I'll be straight with you on this, I honestly give them any more thought than they give me. I am no more grateful for the work they are doing than they are regarding the job I do. Our paychecks are our thanks.
The jobs we hold are the jobs we 1) prepared ourselves for and 2) applied for. If their jobs don't provide enough, they should go for different ones. They're legal, what's the problem? None. Those that oppress themselves and blame others need to wake up. Nothing stops them from a job indoors with a good paycheck and benefits. Nothing but themselves, that is, and if they don't advance....well, they should ask themselves why. We do not lack opportunity in this country.

Don't think anyone has to feel grateful to anyone else for doing the job they choose to do, I like sea food, glade there are tough fisherman, some times risking there very lives on small boats in the open ocean making there living catching fish so I and many others can enjoy sea food.
Think it's proper all workers in US be legal.

No, I'm not grateful, but they should receive the same benefits as anyone else. Also, I don't mind paying a little bit more at the market so they make a little more money.
Not grateful for my job indoors with benefits, I'm happy with it.

Well my husband and I both have great jobs but we work for small companies that are not able to provide us with insurance. We have an income that exceeds the qualification for the state provided insurance and we can't afford private insurance.
The immigrants are able to get state funded insurance as well as welfare. Because they will normally lie about income that comes in and the have multiple members in the household. They can also claim many people (that normally do not live with them) on their tax return- means they get back more in refunds.
So no, i'm not grateful. They choose to come here. Plain and simple. If I was told tomorrow my job indoors was gone and I had to do field work, woopdedo. I grew up working in fields, for no pay and no benefits.

1. If they are here legally, then they have the right to demand to be fairly paid and compensated. If they CHOOSE to work for low pay and no benefits, then that is that. It really isn't my business or concern; it is their CHOICE.
2. You so readily assume that everyone that is on here is wealthy and has benefits.
I think it is admirable for anyone that picks up and moves to another nation to pursue their dreams - as long as they are legally doing so. I don't think that "grateful" falls into any catagory for this. I think YOU may be grateful only because you can sit on your moral high horse and look down your nose at those of us that don't necessarily agree with your thoughts on illegal immigration. . .

At this point I'm grateful for anything that has legal in it. As a child I picked fruit and veggies for our farmers who rented our land. I was not too good to do it and neither is anyone else!

Sure. Of course they receive a fair wage and are entitled to the benefits that come with that no matter your narrow view born of an ignorance of the situation.
