k do u think this is rite, in stonewall m.b. the jr. high is trying this nutrition break thing and to make sure that the kids are exercising they broke up the gr. 7&8's into small groups, and each group is either in the gym, in the square cup stacking or outside FORCED to play soccer, football, 4square or walk around the school. During the 1st 20 min. the gr.8 are exercising and the 7's are eating, then the 2nd half its the opposite. And just to let you know the kids are separated from their friends!

do you think this is right ... should i start a petition to stop this?

i don't mind being away from my friends, what bothers me is that they get mad @ us for catching up and making plans during class,.. but we have no other times to do it...just to tell u, i have no phone in my house, and what else bothers me is that you can't do anything but soccer, 4square or walking during recess you can't do anything else that is exercise like the swings, race, etc. and most of us are in shape , and we have to eat healthy! if we don't bring one healthy thing in our lunch we get a detention, also the funny thing is that your supposed to exercise AFTER you eat..not b4? and we eat AFTER we exercise? its so retarded!

I think the idea is good, but the method they are using seems kind of "out of wack" if you know what I mean. I don't think you should try to stop it so much as maybe bring it up to the Board of Education and see if they can change the way they do things. Good luck!

Frankly, I agree with you. Forcing kids to exercise, especially when they have no choice in HOW they exercise, is only going to make them resent it and carry those feelings with them into adulthood, and from there they will not CHOOSE to exercise. For Gods sake leave kids alone and let them be kids! I also feel that by 7th grade (age 12-13) a kid should be learning to take care of their own bodies and health. You can't FORCE someone to make the right choices, you have to give them all the right knowledge and hope for the best. I'd start a petition if I were you, and possibly write something up for your school paper's editorial page, if you have one. Don't get your hopes up that it will change the policy though, but as an American, you must TRY to change things that you find unjust.

I think it sounds crazy and as a parent I wouldn't like it one bit! I would speak to the principal. Recess time should be break time for the kids period. They exercise in gym class. In my opinion schools these days push so much down the kids to learn way more than they use too. They say no child left behind but they are causing more children to need special intervention classes and those kids are behind the rest! Let the kids have their recess, they deserve it! Kids should be able to choose what they would like to do and who they would like to talk to as long as it is appropriate. Schools should teach our children but not control every second of the day...heck are they going to say don't breath, the air is polluted and harmful to you?

I don't see anything wrong with it. Seems like the school is just worried that kids these days aren't getting enough exercise, which in my opinion is true. Schools get blamed for not having a nutritional lunch and stuff. And it doesn't matter if kids are separated from their friends, they can always make new friends with the people they're grouped with.

You can catch up with your friends while walking around the school.

I think it's good you are forced to go out and move around, but it does seem excessively structured with the small groups rotating between things. Should be your choice of activity as long as you're getting some activity.

GASP! Your school is making you do stuff?!? The horror! Next thing you know, they'll be forcing you to do written assignments to exercise your brain!!

Seriously kid, it's not the school's responsibility to make sure you have time to catch up with your friends. It IS their responsibility to provide you with a well-rounded education. With our country's obesity epidemic, your school is taking a step in the RIGHT direction. If you're already healthy, this won't hurt you any.

Why would you want to eat right before or after you exercise?

But if your only argument is being away from friends, then you're not gonna get anywhere. It's only 20 minutes, and you can make new friends.

Petitions don't get you anywhere, and protests get you tasered.

No way! That's not right! Attend a PTA Meeting and bring it up. Kids have enough to deal with growing up, they don't need added BS from the school.

That's hella retarded because A. school is how you make friends and this just separates you from them and B. God didn't make everyone able to do sports... and that is coming from someone who does sports...
