i was attending an online course from aug 07 to sept 07
i was in the class for about 10 weeks not even a quarter
when i quit in sept because i wasnt satisfied with the education i was receiving
i was told that i would owe nothing
two months later i got a call from salle mae saying i owed them 2501$
i called the school to see what was going on and they had told me they paid back the loan and they would take care of it
today i received a check from the school for 578$ and i called the school again and asked what this was for
they said again they repaid the load back to salle mae but i called salle mae just in case
salle mae said they didnt receive the loan back so i called the school again
the lady had told me she had given me false information and now i owe salle mae 2000 dollars for not even a quarter
these bastards bs'd me three times and now im stuck with a 2000 bill
is there anything i can do about this ? beside pay the money cause i cant afford that

I know this sounds bad but compare it to a university.
Usually if you don't withdrawal in the first week....in writing, you owe for the whole semester.
And if you stay for 2 weeks they'll usually keep 25%
any more than that and there is usually no refund at all.
I had a friend that went for a week to one class and forgot to withdraw and he got an F for the course although he did ok in the others. It could never be erased and was on his record forever.
I learned the hard way about many things to not believe what anyone 'SAYS' because there are all sorts of liers out there and many misunderstandings.
You have to get it writing.
Even with people you think are your friends....get it writing.
I would count this school as a lesson in life.
There are more expensive lessons, but I'm sure this one you will not forget.

No reputable school will let you quit and not pay for the time you have spend it class... otherwise everyone would enroll.... go 3/4 of the way through and quit. Don't fall for it again, get everything in writing.
Don't let the loan get into default, because once you do the feds can take your tax return, garnish your wages and add all kinds of fees on the amount of your loan as well as hike up the interest rates. What started out as $2,000 will quickly become $12,000.
Good Luck.

Sorry, you owe the money. You must withdraw very early to get anything back. However, that doesn't excuse bad customer service. Work with Sallie Mae to work out a repayment plan. If you go back to college, your student loan payments may be deferred as long as you are in school at least half time.

You sat in class for 10 weeks. You owe the money. It's a hard lesson to learn but it sounds like you didn't read any of the documents you signed when you enrolled in the school.
I'm sure if you read your enrollment agreement it states quite clearly about the students 'right to cancel'. Further, it should tell you when the drop period was and that if you sat in class for 'X' amount of time, you would be liable for the cost of said quarter.
I'm sorry you're upset. It does sound like the folks at your school don't know what their talking about, however, the fact remains..........you sat in class for 10 weeks, you are responsible for the bill.

You should only owe for the Qtr. I would get on the phone and get a little tough about getting my refund. You may have to tell them that you will take them court. Some times the on line college's will get a little weak when you are talking court room. It would cost them a tidy little sum to go to court and loose. good luck. PS read your contract!!

Wow, I'm shocked that they even offered to give you a refund after 10 weeks, I've never heard of any school doing that.
