How high does your eye degree need to be to be Blind?

I'm only 14 and my eyesight is already bad from playing too much computer. My eyeglasses presciption degree was 375 degree for both eyes. My mom said that once you get near 500 degree, you have a high chance of getting blind. Is that true? About what degree will you have high chance of being blind?

Blind from having a high degree, not just anything. So don't say" you can be blind at any degree, like if you got stabbed in the eye"

For those who don't know, "degrees" is used in the Orient. 100 degrees is the same as 1.00 diopters.

Degrees does not define blind and your mother is incorrect, higher degree doesn't give you a high chance of going blind.

Blind means seeing worse than 20/200 with your glasses on. You can never be blind simply from having a high degree, blindness is only the result of eye disease or eye injury, it is possible to be blind at 0 degrees and have perfectly normal corrected vision at 2000 degrees.

Hi---Well yes that is a high power. But being very nearsighted does not mean you are going blind, and there is nothing you are doing wrong that is making this happen. Contact lenses are worth a try if you are not already wearing them, and by the time you are 20, they will probably be able to correct your vision with surgery. So....this will turn out great for you...good luck

-3.75 is bad, -5.00 is worse, neither are even close to being blind. You need to be 20/200 or worse WITH CORRECTIVE LENSES ON to be legally blind. So if you see clearly with glasses, you are NOT legally blind. There is no such thing as "legally blind without glasses".

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with this measure of 'degree' - but in general usage 20/200 is classed as legally blind.

I'd suggest asking your ophthalmologist; they can give you a better answer than anyone else.
