well, I guess you should learn how to tune it first, lol

I use to be like that too when I just started. The consequences is that i don't know if I'm playing it right or not, because its out of tune. You cannot learn the actual sound of the chords.

You should learn with a well tune guitar. try get your friend to help out out if possible, otherwise try seaching online. there are many site that teach how to tune your guitar, technique that doesn't involves any tuning equipment.

Otherwise, you can get a eletronic tuner which is super easy to use, but I don't think they are cheap.

One thing Iearn about changing chords is change it as a shape, don't slowly finger each string one at a time. try it slowly until you get the hang of it.

If you really want to learn to play, find some group lessons at a local nonprofit community music school or community college You're much better off there than the half-hour at the superstore from the metalhead who's in between bands. The instructors at the music schools usually have degrees in the field, and the lessons are usually less than what you'd pay at guitar center.
The real advantage of group lessons is that since you are in with a group of students at about your ability, you can set up jam sessions outside of class. Having one or more partners can mean the difference between abandoning it after three months or taking your playing as far as you can. Remember - music is a social activity- if you're sitting alone in your room, you probably won't take it very far. Good Luck!
