Cathy has given the references for what we know of Kolob. There isn't much to it. It is not a cornerstone of our faith. I find it interesting that the Book of Abraham has a cosmology based on a star controlling other stars. The concept of galaxies is about 90 years in the making. Only recently have scientists found examples of stars massive enough to the effect stars in their vicinity. Pretty good for a book "proven to be false."

There is no such thing as a Mormon planet...

As far as your second question:

While Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy are similar to each other doctrinally, both hold teachings that differ from Mormonism. Both Catholicism and Orthodoxy believe God's being is trinitarian, whereas Latter-day Saints affirm that Jesus Christ has a separate nature and is a separate entity from the Father. Christ's oneness with the Father is spiritual in purpose and mind. In both Catholic traditions, Christ's death and resurrection provides access to saving grace. For Latter-day Saints the Atonement of Jesus Christ was a descending below all things in order to rise above all. The Atonement reunites man with God, and all that Christ received from the Father may be received by man from the Father through Christ. Catholics believe that Jesus bestowed on Peter his pastoral authority, which has been passed on in the institution of the Papacy. Latter-day Saints believe that Peter held the keys of apostolic authority, but that these keys were lost in succeeding generations, requiring a modern restoration of these keys. With this restoration came knowledge and authority lost since the New Testament Church, including organizational patterns, the spirit of prophecy, and the temple and its ordinances. For Catholics the scriptural canon is closed while for Latter-day Saints the canon remains open and revelation is ongoing. Latter-day Saints also do not believe in transubstantiation but understand the sacrament as symbols for the remembrance of the body and blood of Christ. While Catholics view marriage as a grace-giving sacrament, Latter-day Saints teach that the eternal glorification of the family is the highest spiritual possibility. Finally, in addition to other differences, while Latter-day Saints honor Mary, they have no equivalent of the doctrines of the immaculate conception, perpetual virginity, intercession, and the bodily assumption of Mary.

There is no Mormon planet. Kolob is the nearest heavenly body, or star, that approximates the current abode of our Father in heaven as revealed to us in the Pearl of Great Price.

As for worthy Latter-day Saints achieving godhood and getting their own planet you might refer back to the Bible which says "All that my Father has is yours" if obedient to the commandments and laws of the Gospel.

So many distortions--so many twisted truths to the LDS faith . . . sigh.

For the umpteenth time, curiosities do not a faith make. Log on to lds.org and explore the site. On it, there are questions and answers befitting your mood.

This is one of the main problems with all false cults.

They don't fully disclose what they really believe until long after you convert and long after you get emotionally attached.

Mormons teach that God was once a man from Kolob. Some Mormons have told me Kolob is a planet, others have said God lived on a planet near the star called Kolob.

The LDS teach that if you are good Mormon man, you've been baptized and married to at least 2 wives in the temple, you'll one day get your own planet.

Essentially what occurs is that you get promoted to being the God of your own planet.

Mormons are obviously embarassed by this but its really what they teach. See a link about Kolob from the LDS' own web site.

There are very few similarities between Catholics and Mormons.

The differences are huge.

I have been a member of the Church for over 30 years, and have never heard anything about a "so called Mormon planet", so have no idea what you are referring to.

As far as similarities with the Catholic Church, I would guess that we both revere Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and we believe that Jesus Christ atoned for our sins, and it is through Him that we will be saved. We both believe in the Bible -- both Old and New Testaments. We believe that God is our Father and that He created the heavens and the earth, and also created all people.

I am sure there are other similarities, but at this time I cannot think of them.

Yeah I want to know too? I'm eager, big time!!!!

Why does it seem to me that cathy is the only one being open and honest on here. Hell, I've even heard of Kolob. why can't these people ever just tell the truth. I can't believe that they are LDS members and have never heard what cathy is talking about. Either you all are in the dark or lying is not a sin in your religion.

And gumby, I hate to say it but, you appear to be the most brainwashed one that I've seen yet.

See there, there's their out. Technically you asked the question wrong, it's not a planet but a star. This definition of course changes from prophet to prophet.

I'm with Gumby on this one. First of all we are not "Mormons" We are Latter-Day Saints. There is no Mormon church it is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Secondly if you want to know about the church why don't you go on www.lds.org and check it out. You don't have to do anything but read. You can also send me an e-mail and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Mormon planets are something you'll only find mentioned by critics of the LDS. Don't worry about it.

As for similarities, I don't know a lot about the Catholic church or beliefs, but I'll share what I do know.

We both believe
-In God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost
-that Jesus Christ is our Saviour and Redeemer
-that authority must be given by men who have authority

To find answers about what Mormons believe, why not speak to a representative from that church? That would be the best source of info.

Please go here to find that out.
